Fascinating Glimpse of early Chicago

Amazing book. Chicago history is full of mystery, intrigue, conflict, brilliance, and color. A multi-faceted narrative that takes you back to the 1890's and introduces you to the good and the evil that paved the way for modern-day Chicago. Fascinating. Couldn't put it down!

Amazing plot with two lines intertwined

Amazing plot with two lines intertwined: creating and designing the World Exhibition in Chicago and the fate of women who mysteriously disappear at that time. Larsen had researched both events in great detail, and the novel reads like the best mystery, but also provides plethora of information about the architecture and the American society of that tumultuous time with Edison and Tesla competing to provide the light for the fair among other inventions. Great read!

Fascinating narrative that is really two parallel stories. It was hard to judge which was more fascinating; the architect or the doctor. I lived in Chicago for many years and did not know this story, but this book has sparked an interest that I will pursue.
