The Detroit Zoo had an art exhibit on the Endurance last year and ended up purchasing the collection. My wife and I have been hooked on the story since first laying eyes on the pictures that accompany the story of what Shackleton and his men went through. Truly an amazing feat of courage, the will to live, and endure no matter the cost (no pun intended). If this were to somehow happen in today's time, I'm not sure we would have the fortitude to make it through the way these men did. Read the book, you won't regret it.

Great Read! The author takes the reader on one of the historic journeys to the Antarctic. Although the men failed in achieving their goal they succeeded in their survival. The author rightfully points out that they were men not supermen but the telling of the story has at least this reader wondering.

I would recommend this book to everyone! Since I am a land lubber, I had to look up a few of the boating terms! I found myself saying that if they can endure those extremes , then I can endure things on a much smaller scale! I have faith in God, and could see His provision and help extended to them in every situation! Shackleton was a fine Captain and leader of his men! It was an experience to read their story.

This is an exceedingly well written account of their incredible journey. I only wish I knew a little more of what they all said/felt afterwards. The book ends pretty suddenly with their rescue and it never tells any story of their celebration once they were all safe. The celebration when the small group of them got to South Georgia was described, but when they all got back to land surely they all enjoyed that celebration? Even that day they all got on the Yelcho surely they had a wonderful celebration? Funny how they all stopped writing their journals or the author just chose not to describe the ending celebration? Anyway it is an extremely well written account, a very engaging story. Nothing beats a true story.

Alfred Lansing has done a great job explaining the issues surrounding/experienced by Shackleton and his crew. Its hard to believe how 'hope', 'will to survive' and 'keep moving towards the the goal' that too under extreme circumstances are the only options that the team had and which it carefully engages to attain the impossible. Certainly, one gets to learn quiet a lot from/of Shackleton's leadership qualities and more importantly his character. On a different note, I am not sure whether the title of the book refers to the name of the ship or the persistence of the crew or both. The only reason for giving a four star is that at times the author tends to repeat the same acts i.e. day to day affairs experienced by the crew which becomes monotonous at times and one would like to skim or skip those parts.
