It was exactly what I needed to check prices on dishes and get the names of the artwork on each dish.

As a casual collector of Currier & Ives dinnerware, I was expecting a lot more. There were at least four more pie bakers than illustrated. More than just one version of the salt and pepper shakers, not to mention several more versions and sizes of mugs, mixing bowls, and many other pieces. I thought the book would be all-inclusive, but there just is not that much more to it than in an earlier book from many years ago. I thought the listed prices were greatly exaggerated as well. Standard eBay prices are by far lower than the retail .com resource referenced in the book. I was also surprised not to see the small company that currently makes some unusual (pie birds, egg cups, rolling pins, etc) Currier & Ives pieces in the traditional blue and white pattern. If a past company that produces 'go withs' can be featured in the book, why not a current-day producer of pieces in this pattern? Long story short: there is a lot more out there than in this book. And while many of those items are not particularly rare, it would have been nice had they been included so novice collectors can look for them.

This is a great collector's book about one of America's most iconic dinnerware patterns. It's full of many great photos of this beautiful dish set. The book also contain details that are useful for the novice and experience collector. I'm happy to add this reference tool to my library.

Since all of my knowledge of Currier & Ives Dinnerware centered around the fact that they were premiums at our local grocery store, l was please to see that the Coes included a history of the dinnerware; beginning with the creation of the prints themselves, through the founding of the Royal China Company & the development of the method of printing on the raw pottery, all the way through the bankruptcy in 1986. The book includes plenty of information for the avid collector, yet is clear enough for the novice to follow. The sharp, detailed photography and the description of each piece makes the identification process very easy. They also included very realistic values reflecting true market value based on actual sales at shows, in shops or at auctions. This type of pricing is very important in today market if a dealer hopes to sell the dinnerware. The book ends with collector information, a reference section and an index.
