D A Carson is one of the best commentators of the Bible. He does a thorough job of using the Bible to teach it. He also is good for explaining the culture to give a better understanding of Jesus' Words and actions. Some of his teachings can be found on YouTube- always a blessing. Love the Gospel Coalition 2017. He has a beginners class he offers online called The God Who is There.

This has been incredibly helpful in writing inductive Bible studies on the book of John. I highly recommend it as a member of the clergy. What you'll find in this book is insightful and also academic. There are plenty of reviews on this book so I will end mine saying I have deeply benefitted from owning this commentary.
