Expensive but essential for VW A4 repairs work
Nicholas Wilson✓ Verified Purchase•September 9, 2016
"The Bentley" is the standard VW shop manual, and has been for decades. It's an essential if you want to work on your A4 VW. Pricey, but you need it. It's so big that they made it two volumes, hard covered. Many of the procedures call for VW special tools, but there are usually alternatives you can figure out.
Great Automotive manual

Bentley Manuals are the best I have seen so far on BMW, VW you name it and this one is no exception. If you are a new or newer car owner you should have one of these on your shelf. The information cannot be beat, and even if you are not going to work on your own car it will enable you to understand what the maintenance tech is talking about. (Or if he is trying to sell you a flux capacitor unit as yours has made one trip to the future to many :).
This is no Haynes manual

I've wanted this manual for some time but I haven't had any problems that would justify the expense. I am looking at replacing the clutch and/or input shaft bearings so I figured it was time to buy something more than a Haynes manual. After looking through this, sure there are things that could be included like transmission internals but there are entire books on transmission overhaul anyway.
I wish it was cheaper but you get what you pay for. This manual is great.

I purchased these, because my Chilton and Haynes manuals did not cover the TDI BEW engine code which is in my 2005 golf. Now since they have arrived I am absolutely impressed with the depth of knowledge and information these books have, they cover everything the DIY mechanic would ever need to know, whether you are doing mechanical or body work the diagrams and pictures are great. My vehicle was in a collision so I am replacing the whole front clip, dash, airbags, timing belt and it covers all of that and more! Best paper manuals I have owned. I would certainly recommend these to anyone who does their own maintenance!
it's still the best.

Bentley remains the go-to tech. I give this only 4 stars because it's now a huge compendium of different vehicles. You still have full, high quality coverage of your specific model, but you're also carrying around a ton of information about engines you don't care about. The older edition was available as a mk IV diesel book, which had the same quality of coverage in a single book. As someone who doesn't ever plan to own a gas version of my TDI, I wish I could pay for and own only the relevant coverage. But if this is all there is, it's still the best.
