Absolutely wonderful read. I am a Bonus mom to a wonderful 6 year old African- American girl. She is definitely a bundle of joy. Recently, we have been experimenting with leaving her hair natural. Not having the same hair type as her (I have straight hair), I have been constantly searching the internet for ideas. I came across this book after going to the website with the same name. I cannot tell you how helpful it has been. It is by no means a complete style book, but it is a great introduction. It was an easy read and I found everything so helpful. The author peppered it with plenty of pictures to reiterate her points and she broke down a lot of the main concepts that I was initially confused about. I would definitely recommend this book for someone who is new to styling natural hair for children. Definitely a great read.
Highly recommended! Easy read, very educational!

Wonderful book! This well written book explains different parts, braids, and techniques and what kind is best for different situations. She also explains the importance and reason for a good hair care plan! As a "vanilla" mom who could just do basic braids and now can do heart shaped parts, box braids, and spirals on my three "chocolate" darlings, I highly recommend this book!
LOVE IT!!! I recommend it!!

I LOVE this book!!! It has taught me so many new thing and has helped me to improve on techniques I'd already known. Defining my two strand flat twist a lil better. Still working on them.
Very well organized and helpful.

I must say that I was very impressed with this book.
I have two girls that I plan to do the best I can to keep their hair healthy. I decided to remove my relaxer after giving birth to the 2nd one because I wanted to demonstrate to them that they can love what God has given them.
I was hesitant to purchase this book because I wasn't sure if I would learn anything I didn't already know for $15. I must admit that if I saw a picture of the author first I may not have purchased the book (I didn't understand the title...duhh). Thank goodness that my inappropriate judgement did not get a chance to keep me from this book. I am fallible.
Pros
- The author writes well. She explains everything very clearly.
- The layout of the Kindle book is great. I really like her headings and subheadings that make it clear what I am reading about.
- I like to read things in bullet form. Especially a "how to". The appendix did a great job with the list.
- Her tips are realistic. Her warnings about your skill level and time is On It! She provides caution throughout the book.
- She did an excellent job explaining the different types of braids. I did not know the proper name for many styles. It was nice to see it in print with a picture.
- This book is great for anyone that has a child with 4a/b/c hair. Even if you had this type of hair before you got a relaxer it is likely that you don't remember how to maintain this type of hair. That is my story. I had children in my late 30's. I did not know the proper way to keep this type of hair healthy. I recently transitioned away from relaxing so I am learning. This book also provided great tips for my hair.
- I like that the book is not about chemically processed hair. The book focuses on natural hair so I don't have to figure out what I am reading about.
- She did a wonderful job teaching a person how to braid. The techniques were well explained. I wish I purchased this before I had the baby.
Cons
- The pictures were great but for the more advanced styles pictures of the process would have been more helpful. I am still curious about how some styles actually got done.
I am struggling between a 4 and 5 for book because of the one con I listed. If I could rate it a 4.5 that would be perfect.

A great book, I wish she'd put out another one!

This book has become a bible in our house.
My stepdaughter and I have taken a journey together this past year, we've been learning all about 'THE HAIR'. This book was the foundation for that adventure, and these days she's feeling sassy, pretty, and her hair looks and feels amazing. I attribute that success to this book and this wonderful author. The instructions are easy, the pictures are great, and we get lots of ideas and inspiration from its pages. When we do hair, my stepdaughter likes to look at the pictures in this book over and over. Please write another!!
