Good resource

There are different sections to this book. The main sections address various plumbing projects. Any plumbing project you can imagine is covered with pictures and detailed explanation from fixing a leaking faucet to installing a new bathroom. Do you want to replace a toilet? It's there. Repairs. Installations. Drains. Quick repairs to burst pipes as well as permanent repairs. Another chapter deals with tools, materials and skills. How to work with copper, PEX, iron, gas pipe fittings... It has a comprehensive list with pictures of the tools that plumbers use and materials like solder, putty and compound, and it explains how to make a fitting.

This is a good resource to have.
Easy to use with good instructions

At least this will help you understand why plumbers get a ton of money. It breaks down everything with pictures for guys who are afraid to read. It's simple, direct, and although you won't get your card when you're done with this, you'll have a good understanding of what you attempting to do. I bought it used, and it came to me like it was brand new. And don't tell your friends you have, cause they'll borrow it and that's the last time you'll see it. A lot cheaper than a plumber. Try it.
Just hire a plumber (like this book suggests).

I purchased this book after looking at a "sneak preview" on amazon. I should have just stuck with the preview and passed on this book. Basically, it tells you how to connect pipe together. Something that anyone really should know how to do. It doesn't explain anything, just shows pictures of a guy doing the installs. Some of the installs it suggests you hire a professional plumber. Why would I purchase a book about DIY plumbing only to HIRE a plumber to do the work for me?! Doesn't make sense. There are a couple things in here to give you ideas, but nothing that actually helps you. Just my opinion.
Book was written by tradesman

The book is written from the tradesman's point of view. They don't like Pex pipe. Why? Its too easy to install. A homeowner can do it. Pex and Sharkbite products have changed the face of the plumbing industry. Copper is old and no longer widely used. Pex is discussed in the last chapter because it threatens the tradesman livelihood. Pex is purposely not really addressed. Yet the cover picture shows a Pex installation. The plumbing trades have fought to keep Pex and Sharkbite out of homeowners hands and have successfully banned its use in some areas. A homeowner can easily install Pex pipe but the book concentrates on older methods that require a higher skill level to accomplish, the message is you need a plumber not a homeowner to do the work. The book is written with good details on some projects but does not flow well. Instead of working from the sewer pipe up to the faucet the book confuses the processes. I don't come away understanding the process because there are lots of unexplained steps. I have to run to Home Depot and talk to a certified plumber at the store to fill in the blanks, because there are details the trades would rather you not understand is my guess.
