I've only been knitting for a couple of years and still consider myself a novice. I found this is to a great book for a beginner or novice knitter. It might not be challenging enough for an intermediate or experienced knitter. I love the look of the scarves and shawls that are featured in this book but will definitely be looking for substitutes for most of the yarn. I wouldn't be willing to pay $30-$60 for a skein of yarn as inexperienced as I am. After I've mastered some of the techniques, that would be fine and I will probably give some of the more expensive yarns a try.

I would buy this again for the information gained in this little book. It shows how to use different size needles to make really cool scarves and doing stripes lengthwise is something I'd never thought of. Loved the ideas in this book, changed my whole way of thinking about how to make scarves.

This book has easy to understand directions and fun projects that showcase your fancy yarn stash. I've only been knitting for six weeks and I can do any of the projects in this book! The author gives variations for each project and shows you how to test the stitches in a basic yarn so you don't sacrifice the good stuff while you learn. The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is that a couple of the directions leave out a picture that I would have found helpful (I had to re-read the written directions for it several times). Overall I highly recommend this book.
