This is a very informative book by a well respected writer and imbiber of Japanese whiskey. Stephan has put together an excellent read on the fairly modern history of whiskey in Japan. The book is both enlightening and entertaining, and carried a boatload of "a-ha!" moments for me. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about Japanese whiskey. This book has things for the geeks that want to know about mash-tuns and still arms at varies distilleries, to those that are looking for a primer on what how whiskey in Japan came to be what it is.
May the malt be with you

This is a well written and edited book on Japanese whiskies and distilleries. It includes notes on how the diverse ways Japanese drink whisky, from neat to hot whisky. It has a concise but enlightening history of whisky in Japan, and descriptions of various individual distilleries from the popular and well-known Suntory whiskies (such as Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Hibiki), and the Nikka, whiskies including Yoichi and Miyagikyo, as well as less well-known but equally fascinating and excellent distillers such as Akkeshi and Shizuoka distilleries.
The photographs are fresh and adds a further interest to the whiskies discussed. Whisky makers and blenders are featured, as are whisky cocktails and whisky and food pairing. The chapter on the 33 "˜must-try' Japanese whisky is a "˜must-read'. That is at least easier done than to find the 33 "“ which are hard to get (even though 31 of them were released this century). There are lovely, captivating iconic Japanese such as Ichiro's card series, the Noh series, and the endangered animals series.
It is a matter of personal preference, but some readers may prefer Dominic Roskrow's "˜Whisky Japan' published in 2016 by Kodansha. Eychen's has a more Oriental and rustic layout though. Might be good to get both books.
