Wow!! What a book. This tells how to fill all those empty spaces and without perfection. Even if you mess up it doesn't look bad. I love love this book. I always have trouble with boarders and this answers soooo many questions. Great book!!!

Beginner quilter here, so i bought to use for practice free motin quilting. Very surprised at the quality of the thread so will be saving for finishing projects. Just as good as some more expensive products.

Good approach to quilting a project by matching/coordinating block unit shapes with the designs. I was able to see quilt blocks in another way.
Great book for real quilters

Very good quilting book, but it's not for you top makers unless you want to get inspired to do quilting, which is far easier than top makers realize. This book gives several quilting designs for various shapes, including squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, and diamonds. The designs are not hard to make. The directions included show how to make each design, and how to use them in a quilt. The designs, though easy to make and providing inspiration, can also be used together, or adapted individually. The variety means that you never have to try to remind yourself of that design you used a few quilts ago, but can't remember now, even though you're sure it would be perfect. This book is designs for quilting only; it does not include anything on how to piece or applique, so buy this when you finally decide you'd actually like to finish a quilt all by yourself, instead of quilting by checkbook.
Excellent Book

I didn't know about Angela Walter's until I started getting some books by Tula Pink and was so impressed by the quilting done by Angela, I have become a fan. I really loved all the free motion designs for all the shapes except the square shapes. The one thing that has had me stumped by free motion quilting is on how and where to do the "back tracking" to keep the fluidity of a design, and this book addresses that issue 100% with fabulous diagrams and written instructions with tips for where to make placement marks on the quilt. There are even a few hints to help you learn "where to go next" if you get backed into a corner to continue with a continuous line design. The designs are broken down into small areas, which makes it a perfect way to practice these designs. There are no full size templates that you can copy and mark on to your quilt top, this is strictly "free motion" and "free hand" quilting all the way. Almost all the photos of the stitched out blocks are very easy to see, with tone on tone or contrasting thread. The writing is relaxed, easy going, and confidence building. You don't feel intimidated by but rather actually feel inspired and empowered to practice with these designs. I have so much admiration for anyone who can "move" a long arm machine and get such fluid lines, and they surely show in these beautiful examples, however, I have no doubt that you can use these designs with your domestic machine as well, using the "Quilt as you Go" method (quilt the block, then sew the blocks together) which was my purpose for buying this book. I think with any kind of illustration, whether you are working with pencil or machine and thread, it just takes practice to develop the ability to execute on a particular design until you get the kind of results you would like to have. Given that it costs at least $200 to have a twin quilt top quilted for you, I thought the price of this book and the education it provided, offered not only a tremendous value, but also the opportunity to have the satisfaction of quilting your own quilt. This is my second book that I own from her and I understand there are two more that I would definitely buy! The only thing the book was missing was instructions on how to quilt "pebbles." They are referenced here and there as a background filler but no diagrams are provided on how to free motion quilt pebbles.
