Easy To Do Patterns With Some Intersting Style
Beverly Treadway✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 20, 2017
I spent last night going through this book. I am really pleased with my purchase. I read through many reviews before deciding to buy the book. While I agree that a few of patterns may seem too much like "sacks' to some, or too fitted for others, I liked the styles, overall. Yes, not all of the patterns apply to all full figure shapes, but what patterns do? I found patterns for each of the general body types. I bought the book for the waterfall coat pattern and the sweater / pencil skirt combo. I figured that those two patterns would cover the cost of the book, even if I wasn't interested in the other outfits. So, I was pleasantly surprised at the other patterns. I also liked that the patterns were easy to make. There is a lot of style packed into a few seams per garment. While I have been sewing since I as 10, and I can create highly fitted things, I really don't care for them. I am more comfort driven in my style choices. I am an apple shape, so anything really detailed requires a lot of refitting and adjusting. These patterns are simple and straightforward. A few general comments: 1) If you get this book, go for the book form and not the kindle. This book is set up like the "Sew Perfect" book in that the patterns are in a packet at the back of the book. I would guess in the kindle version, you would have to print them out and use a ton of tape and paper to put a full size pattern together. 2) You need to mark your own seam allowances on the patterns. So make sure to read the instructions on how much seam allowances you need to put, and where, because it can differ from part to part. I think they do this because some of the same pattern pieces are used for different outfits, and in different ways. If you read the comments and tips, you'll be fine. 3) There are a few garments that have satin fabric recommendations. I personally don't like satin, it tends to highlight areas I don't want to highlight. But don't let that turn you off to the pattern. You can go with a different fabric, even a jersey to get the feel and texture you want. 4) The only reason that I didn't give this book a 5 star rating is because it really didn't go into the many variations you could do with each pattern. That would have appealed to more people, I think. For example, they have several pencil type skirts, which are all done with a stiff woven fabric. I plan on trying them with a Ponte knit fabric instead and maybe doing a light elastic in the waist. Think of "possibilities" when you look at the patterns.

Anyway, I am enjoying the patterns, and will be going shopping this week for fabric. I can't wait to make the coat!

Thought I'd take a chance and work with BurdaStyle patterns to get the variety of fashions in this collection. I haven't actually started any projects yet, but my mouth is watering.
