Beautiful book with a lot of great photos and information. Was disappointed the cover arrived damaged.

Really decent book geared for the beginner carver. Shows basic axe and knife techniques and follows up with 5 nice spoon projects to get those basic skills into muscle memory. What I find the book exceptional in is giving a first time teacher a good lesson plan to run with.

This is a pretty book with good production values

This is a pretty book with good production values. However the writing is a bit careless when describing carving technique and there are numerous proof reading errors that are annoying. This book falls far behind "The Artful Wooden Spoon" by Joshua Vogel, which shows a large number of beautifully photographed spoons of different styles and woods. For careful descriptions of carving technique "Swedish Carving Techniques" by Wille Sundqvist seems to be definitive.
