I am not at all happy with the recipes and the directions are not very clear. For what you get I felt it was too expensive. I would not buy again!
What is a steam proof bowl and does it go inside my steamer?
Linette Anderson✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 26, 2018
I was excited to try new recipes with my 2 tier steamer. The recipe book is good with lots of food options. BUT, the recipes I want to try most I'm confused on: a lot of things needing a "steam proof bowl", does anyone understand what this is?? Do we put the bowl inside the steamer?? Also no customer service or email info to contact the author to ask questions. Please help?
Good recipes for this newbie steamer gal !

This book is great -- factual, to the point, easy to read / find recipes, and short (not overwhelming).

I've been steaming food for years but never thought to buy an actual steamer. I'm not much of a cook and the idea had never occurred to me. When I ran across a Cuisinart steamer, it seemed like a great idea. So I bought it and two cookbooks to give me some ideas about how to use it -- the Skinny Steamer (with marginal reviews) and Cooking with Steam (said to be the classic, but also with marginal reviews).

Cooking with Steam is more comprehensive in a sort of big cookbook kind of way. For me, a little too comprehensive with a lot of recipes of things that I would never make. It also is not laid out as well and spends a lot of time each recipe talking about various specific steamers (not including the Cuisinart, and information that I'm not interested in anyway).

The Skinny Steamer has shorter easier recipes that are laid out one to a page with clear steps. Recipes that have fancy names that I will never make are presented in a way that make it easy to substitute ingredients.

This book is good for people not trying to make a fancy nine course French meal in a steamer, but who just want to get some ideas about how to use a steamer, and make some healthy easy meals.
worth the money.

some wierd recipes come in this book, but others are rather common and easy.
