The kids like it. I remember enjoying playing with a "gear toy" as a child, the more the merrier with gears I say! Gears are kind of amazing, aren't they? I wonder who invented the first gears? Anyhoo, as these were a gift I can only say I've been TOLD the kids (ages 5 and 3) are enjoying them. I hope they're instructive and make those little gears in their heads turn a bit more!

Learning Resources has the best toys for creative and imaginative play without all the bells, whistles, flashing lights and obnoxious music. Children love to imagine and many of today's toys don't allow them the opportunity to exercise their minds. This toy set allows children to problem solve, think about cause and effect, spacial reasoning and a host of other developmental skills and abilities that I am not qualified to discuss! Did I mention this toy is a blast to play with???! We love our Gears!Gears!Gears!

Pros:
The toy itself is good quality. The gears work well, align nicely, and click together easily. My 2.5 year old nephew really enjoyed playing with the gears
-Has adequate parts to make some very interesting gear creations
Cons:
-I ordered the frustration free packaging. The packaging was easy to open - problem was it was just a plan cardboard box. It was embarrassing to give to my nephew as a Christmas gift. It made it look like I got the toy at a garage sale and put it in a random cardboard box. The cardboard box didn't have any photos of the product or even a product name on it. Inside the box, there were no pictures, instructions, or idea booklets -- all crucial for this age group as not all toddlers are able to think of their own creations/designs.
-If the packaging had been better, I would have given this a 5 star rating. Like I said, the toy was great, but the terrible packaging, lack of pictures on the box, ideas or instructions in the frustration free package makes the product look cheap. I do see on some other feedback that they are changing the frustration free packaging - hopefully that is the case!

This was a Christmas present for my 4 year old. He loved it instantly. The pieces secure together nicely, not too difficult for him at all. Loved that my son was able to make a miniature version of a geriatric walker like his grandpa's, among other random structures. This toy is a good building toy, but I do wish got a larger version for more versatility. So far, this toy has been played with daily.
