It works ok. It's gets hot enough to melt high heat solder on electronics such as some speed and power controllers have.

The tips are poor quality and begin to easily bend if you put any pressure on them while working.

The lights are loose within the housing -ghetto.

It's made in Mexico.

It's a powerful iron and can do jobs faster with less heat sink on parts.

Weller needs to address a few issues. In addition, I'd gladly pay $10-15 more bucks if you made this in the US.

I ordered this soldering gun for a specific project. When the tool arrived i took it outof the box pluggedit in prepared to work on my project. When I pulled the trigger nothing happened....
No lights, no sound, no heat. Tried several different outlets just to be sure.... Not the outlets...Frustrated that my project was delayed I boxed the tool up sent it back to amazon and ordered another. New one arrived today. Took it out of the box, plugged in and got the exact same result. Now VERY frustrated I am sending this paperweight back to amazon. There is no way I will order another weller product!

Broke after 1 day of use on high temperature. I had no idea it burned up until 2 weeks later, I used it and it was "cold" and would not even heat up. The return period ended, I had it 6 weeks. It was a heavy and difficult to use to solder battery copper alligator clips. It did not work well. Perhaps, I just pushed its limits waiting for the metal to heat up on my piece. I Found a 300w hand stick solder iron for $50, and WOO melted solder fast on my battery clips. It shipped from China but worth the wait for me. This Weller I bought based on the high watts I needed, and it under delivered and burned up after first use.

I am tempted to give this a lower rating, but the bottom line is that it works ... for now. This arrived today, and I had an immediate need for it. My first misgiving set in when I opened the case and the plastic window fell out onto the floor. It was easy enough to snap into place, but doing so made it clear to me that whomever was supposed to have done that figured out that it's faster just to cram the piece into place and close the case. It looks okay ... until you open it.

Okay ... not a deal breaker.

Plugged it in, solder in hand, ready to tin the tip. Waited to see it start melting in the 6 seconds that others have claimed. Then I waited another 6 seconds ... and then 30 more. Cautiously felt the tip and it was room temp, even though the "headlights" had been burning to show that power was getting to the unit. Then I tried to wiggle the tip, and found that it had been stuck into the soldering gun and only the top set screw tightened enough to hold it in there. I guess it's faster to do it that way. Besides, the instructions say to tighten the tip.

Got the Allen wrench out (provided with the kit) and tightened them both up. This time the gun heated up fairly quickly, and did the job. If it will continue working the way it does right now, I'll be happy. My concern is that, if I found two instances of sloppy work in parts that are easy to see, what kind of shortcuts were taken to assemble the rest of the gun in a hurry? Weller needs to institute some quality control on these things.

An excellent solder set. Has met the high wattage job requirement in this shop. BUT NOTE! The user must operate as per the instructions or it will toast its-self in a snap, if the user doesn't let COOL for FOUR Minutes after burning ONE Minute.
