Originally I had bought the D28715 standard chop saw, was very disappointed when I got it home and tried it out. Way too noisy, extremely slow cuts and even after buying a diamond blade was still slow and left tons of burs on what I was cutting. NOW...The Dewalt DW872 shows up today get it unpacked and plugged in....this thing is amazing!!!! Nice smooth cuts EVERY TIME with NO burs, no blueing, no metal flying all over the place. Don't take me wrong, it will make somewhat of a mess on your bench/floor, I just take my magnet on wheels and clean up is quick. You won't be disappointed in this one.
Dewalt Fail

This saw is garbage. I bought one at Home Depot last year. Realized how impossible it was to get square. I thought it may be a one off issue. Returned it, then ordered one on here to save on tax. Realized that this saw is a terrible design. I'm a level headed dude. Most of my tools are dewalt. I am not a revengeful bastard. I've never reviewed a product in my life, but I feel this is necessary. The saw was designed to be easy and quick to switch angles. The problem is that it's not tight. It's so easy to quickly switch angles because the quick adjust fence mechanism is not tight or square or solid in any way. My other biggest complaint is the deck of the saw. I don't have an issue with the fact that it is stanped steel, I have an issue with the fact that it has no flat spot on it. If you look at one in person with a level across it, or any straight edge, you will realize that the deck is not designed to be flat. It doesn't have a span over two inches wide that stays level before it rises up. It had a pattern on it to rigidity the stamped steel, but all it does is cause massive deflections in flatness. Also, the two that I've had required complete disassembly and shimming under the motor mount to make the blade "square" to the base. It was plainly visible with any speed square that it was in no way square to any point on the deck. I could ramble on but I will spare you. I will say the motor is strong and the blade cuts well and the storage/carrying pin is well made. Chip collection is nearly non existent. Aside from those benefits, it seems like an absolute fail on dewalts part. It needs a full redesign with a flat cast base and a motor mount cast into the base. A few degrees off square is catastrophic while trying to make square welds. Also, the clamp on the fence pushes itself further out of square if you over tighten even a little bit.
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly!!

This is what I found out. The saw cuts amazing compared to an abrasive saw and in a fraction of the time. The saw from the silver cast aluminum saw mount up is great!! It cuts a lower rpm than most other saws, I was worried it would bog down but it never did cutting 3x3 1\8 thick tube steel. The blade seems to have some wobble to it however it is consistent and the cuts are square.
The Yellow blade guard and spark deflector however are not designed very well. Cutting the 3x3 tube steel at a 45 I had to remove the spark deflector and cut off about 1" of the blade guard so that I could complete the cuts. A 14" saw needs to be able to cut the size of material it was made to cut without having to remove safety features and cutting the blade guard to do so.
The base however leaves much room for improvement. It has a quick release to change the angles of cut however it still needs a square or a 45 to set it correctly, ie not tabs that are dependable??????? When the fence is set correctly it will move each time you clam steel into the cutting vice. at 90 is not as bad as the 45 but still you can not count on it to stay true. We change this by drilling secondary holes that we put pins through to be a perfect 90 or 45 and stay true no matter how much pressure we put on it with the vice. All of these issues could have be resolved by Dewalt with some simple indexing that would keep the vice true and remove the need to set the fence with a square or a 45!!!!!!!!!!
The saw comes with a clamp to hold your cutting material down to the cutting table, but again poor though on this part. It has three places you can put the clamp for the different positions of the fence. However you can not use it for cutting 1x1 stock as the clamp will not fit where needed and there are not spaces for it when you adjust the fence to its middle positions. Two more rectangle wholes is all that is needed, a simple die adjustment from Dewalt to punch five holes not just three.
To sum up this saw, it is a great cutter and performs very well from the middle up. from the middle down it is a half hearted attempt at making something that is not really available on the market today. While these oversights are disappointing I still would buy this over some of the other saws I have seen. Four stars is because of it cutting performance and ability.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!

As someone who seldom writes reviews I feel compelled on this one. I bought, as I normally do on the favorable reviews about this saw. Here's what I found. This saw has a stamped steel base with a fence that makes no sense (also stamped steel). If all you are ever going to do is make 90 degree cuts it is possible that after fiddling/ welding the fence in place, to make the saw workable. Otherwise stay away. There is no practical way to make accurate cuts on this saw. Period. The clamp deflects and twists the work piece when it is clamped against the fence, making an angled cut that is accurate impossible. Something else I noticed, the blade wobbles. Could be the blade I'm not sure? Net effect, cuts are more ragged that I expected. This saw is also one of the more expensive saws as well. I don't get it. I would have given this a one star review if I had not been able to return it. Thank you Amazon. I would encourage any one who is buying a cold cut saw to only consider one with a cast base and a more "normal" fence/ clamping system. I replaced this saw with a 14" Ridgid saw. It seems overpriced to me, however with the little that I've used it, it's only about a million times better...... Buyer beware on this one!
I like it's power

I've had this for 4 months now and it has performed well. I'd give it 3.5 stars. I like it's power; the mechanics feel good. I like the quick release on the vice. The fence is a blessing and a curse - it's easy to move and reset, but there is no positive lock at an accurate 90° or 45° (you have to calibrate every time) and it's too easy to get out of true. There are two issues that i'd consider if purchasing again: 1). The base - it's made of pretty thin metal and I bent it at the channel where the blade comes down. It was operator error, as i attempted to cut a piece too small to properly secure, but a cast iron table would fare much better. 2). Chip collection - I am curious as to how the Dewalt performs compared to other brands. I'd love an aftermarket solution to contain and collect chips. I will probably build something custom.
