Great Coffee Grinder, some effort, but not too hard to grind and 5 to 10 minutes to grind up to six tablespoons of Great Coffee

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out which coffee grinder to buy online. We first started out with an electric model and found that it took a lot more beans per cup of coffee and the grind was not as fine and the taste was not as good. It also burnt out quickly. (More replacement expense).
I learned grinding your own coffee could improve the taste. However, I found looking at most hand grinding products online was scary, because so many people reported grinders that were falling apart quickly or not very good or reliable for the money. I can honestly say that this is a very good grinder. It is worth the money. It takes about five minutes to grind four tablespoons of coffee which works well for a stronger two cups of coffee. Six tablespoons for four cups. We have ours on the finest setting and it makes it into a potent powder. You have to grind one tablespoon of coffee at a time with this grinder; but you can keep grinding up to four tablespoons, before you have to empty the drawer. It takes some effort, but it is not that hard to do. You don't have to have huge muscles to do this. I am a thin, little, non-muscular lady. I put it between my legs on a couch to hold it steady and then grind each tablespoon of my coffee. My husband puts this grinder on a hot pad that is flat on the counter and grinds coffee there. I think this grinder is very well made, good quality and durable. I have had no trouble with the handle or knob or the durability of the grinder or mechanics of it so far. We also use a high end Stainless Steel French Press (better then glass ones) which also works well like a Percolator if you stir the coffee, before you put on the lid, but lasts much longer. (I was tired of the replace of an expensive percolator every six months also). Anyhow, we pre-wet the ground beans and then heat the water in a tea kettle to 195 degree's and in four minutes, the coffee is excellent. So, Total ,In about 15-20 minutes, (grinding, etc.. included) you get two to four cups of coffee. The only negative of this grinder like the others of its kind, is the drawer is small. We put the drawer of this unit over a square Tupperware container and then empty out the grinds and then angle them to a corner to put it into the French Press. I also use a clean stain pad with a stick and a clean make up brush to help get out the grinds remaining from the drawer and the inside of the unit. Otherwise, it is all over the counter and a mess. Other then this, it really doesn't take that long to make your coffee. The coffee beans go further then before, the smell and taste are better for the effort. We also get our coffee from a company online directly each month that will roast it the day you order it, so unlike store coffee it is fresh and not rotten. You can sometimes find it here on Amazon, it is called Camano Island. They have coffee that is gentle on your stomach and healthy and very fresh. It also is organic Coffee many varieties from many areas of the globe, for the health of coffee workers, farmers, consumers as well as birds and wildlife in each area. And this company supports the people in the business of coffee to keep their own homes and coffee farms and get a fair working wage for more education and their own community. Also, no one is giving me any kind of gift for advertising or reviewing this product for this company or Camano. I just want to help others have a great coffee experience. Hope something I said can help you decide if this is the right grinder for you.
Quality, sturdy mill

This is my first manual coffee mill. I purchased this one over a $20.00 burr mill due to a need for long-lasting quality, and upon receiving it, I feel that I will not be disappointed. The grinding action is smooth and I very much enjoy getting to crank it. The adjustment knob for the type of grind is easy enough to use, but will require a basic level of dexterity to do so - if you struggle with using your hands due to any disorder or whatnot, then you may need a different coffee grinder that accommodates for that.
It can be slightly hard to clean, and I have a special brush to do so - some powder collects at the bottom of the grinding mechanism and I need to wipe it off with a fine brush after every use. Also, a very small portion of the powder somehow ends up at the base of the coffee mill, not in the draw, but it's not that big of an inconvenience. The knob of the draw is secured by a small hex screw, and my only fear with the set is that one day it may start to get loose.

Overall, it gets 5 stars for the aesthetics of the set. It has a beautiful uniform finish and it is indeed made out of real wood. The metal has a beautiful chrome look to it that provides a great contrast to the wood. The set has great quality to it as well, and it certainly will provide many years of grinding.
Nice grinder...I want to like it but it makes mess of your counter and floor

I was able to adjust the grinder to do a coarse grind for use in a French press. The beans are easy to grind as long as I have the grinder braced against something. The crank turns easily. I'll have to see if putting a few beads of silicone on the bottom will allow the grinder to grip a bit to the counter. Right now the edge of my range top sticks up just enough to use as a brace to hold the grinder against while using it. Like other reviewers have found the grinder slides freely on the counter when you try to use it. Beans smell great while you're grinding them. I also tried doing a fine grind just to see how the grinder did. I am happy with the results. It takes a few extra turns of the crank when doing finer grind; be patient and the grinder feeds all the beans through the hopper.

What I dislike immediately is all the grounds that end up on the edge of the drawer and all the grounds that fall inside the grinder that don't end up in the drawer. Coffee grounds seem to end up all over the counter and on the floor. I am only grinding four scoops of beans for a two cup French press. It seems like the size of this grinder should be ideal for the single mug of coffee I make each morning but it makes such a mess of the coffee, I would suggest spending your money elsewhere on a grinder that does a better job catching the coffee.I am giving this a couple of days of use but most likely will be returning it. It's too bad because I love how the grinder looks and does an awesome job making a perfect gind but I really don't want to deal with a constant mess each time I use it.
Compact, attractive, effective

After suffering through a Cuisinart mechanized burr grinder, going back to basics is such a relief. The consistency of the grind is fantastic. The unit doesn't clog and then overheat like with a mechanized grinder, I don't get fresh grounds spilling over my counter top, and it takes up little space. Some advice though: the catch drawer isn't all that big. If you shake the unit side-to-side intermittently, the grounds will spill evenly within the drawer rather than piling up in a tight mound that gets shaved off when you pull the drawer out.
Nostalgic grinder that delivers a consistent small batch of ground coffee.

Waited until I had mine for a few years before writing a review. I've been using this since it arrived although I do not grind daily. I usually grind enough for two days of coffee drinking. I store the fresh grinds in a small mason jar that I keep in the refrigerator. This grinder has worked flawlessly since the first day I set the grinding adjustment. It makes very consistent grinds with virtually none of the coffee dust you get with an electric grinder. After a few months a squeak developed in the wood-knob portion of the crank handle so I used a toothpick to put a few drops of USP mineral oil on the wood handle pivot and on the metal pivot below where the handle attaches to the grinder. A few drops of the mineral oil resolved the squeak and made the grinder operate more smoothly. Walnut cabinet is excellently made and has well withstood its time in a very dry Arizona. Chrome must be of a good quality because a damp cloth wipe and it looks brand new. Peugeot's lifetime warranty on the grinding mechanism is safe since it is still grinding on my initial setting and I've ground almost a dozen 2.5lb bags of coffee beans. I suspect I will be grinding with this for many years to come. So if you are looking for a small batch, high quality, consistent grand, manual coffee grinder, then you will likely enjoy this grinder.
