Got this as a Christmas gift for my son and he LOVES it! It's like a much more interactive Lego kit. It might take some adult help to figure out some of the projects and instructions, but once they get the hang of it your child should be able to do most of them on their own. I do wish the pieces were repairable or that you could order replacement parts in case some of them get damaged.

A week before Christmas and I was struggling to find something that my 9 year old son would like. Everything on his list to Santa were things that were not real (Portal Gun? Pizza dispenser? LOL) and then I came across this set of Snap Circuits and thought that he might really like this.

My son is high functioning autistic (High IQ, Low social skills) and loves to learn how things work AND loves instructions and going "by the book"

Come Christmas morning we all sat in the living room and opened gifts. He got some games, some art supplies, some clothes, LEGO's and other stuff but when present opening was done he wanted to play with the Snap Circuits first. Well here we are 2 days after Christmas and it is the only toy he has played with. Seriously...he has it set up on the kitchen table and is enjoying making all the projects in the booklet and even trying out making his own projects.

I had to tear the kids away from it this afternoon and bribe him with a sugar cookie to play a board game with me and his brother and sister. He did (reluctantly) and then right back to the Snap Circuits!

This toy is a great way for kids who like to learn how things work. He has built a motion detector, alarm, AM radio and so much more.

There are no wires to mess with, the circuits really are a snap. Looking at how they go together it is just like the snap on a piece of clothing. Cool beans!

I am glad I got this larger set! This was a hit 110%. So happy with my purchase to see the smile on this kids face as he shows off his latest electronic thing he put together.

As far as noises go...yes they can make things that beep and boop. But it is not the most annoying sounding toy I have ever heard. Maybe with 5 kids under my belt my ability to tune out toy noises is better than others. But seriously it could be a drum set or something with talking animal sounds...this is mild on the noise level.

Our five-year old son received this as a Christmas gift last year. After a year of use, he still enjoys playing with it. All of the parts and the board itself are well constructed from heavy-duty plastic.

The board, which acts as the base for all the electrical designs, has several "pegs" on it which all the electrical circuits snap onto. The board has an alphanumeric grid which corresponds to the layout of the circuits in the user's manual. The user looks at the manual, grabs the necessary component, and snaps it into place on the board. When two or more components stack on top of each other, the directions indicate if the component is on level one, two, three, etc. This tells the user that all components on level one should be placed on the board first, those labeled two placed second, and so on. It's a very ingenious way of telling the user how to construct the circuit. The pictures are very clear and well laid out.

Once the circuit has been built, I'll read the explanation to my son so he knows what to expect when he turns the switch on. Likewise, I tell him what each piece is and point to it as I'm reading the description to him; resistors, LED lights, speakers, etc. He's learning more about electricity and circuits than I ever did at his age and up until college.

The circuit board operates on two AA batteries for most designs. The remaining circuits use four AA batteries. We opted for the AC adapter to save on buying batteries. But, at one year later, have hardly used the adapter. I probably wouldn't buy it if I had to do all over again. With all the batteries we buy for other toys we've always got an ample stock in the house. The adapter was just another expense we probably didn't need. That being said, it does work well and we have had no problems with it.

Kids who like to create and build things with their hands, such as Legos & Trio blocks, should enjoy the Snap Circuits SC-300. This does not require any tools whatsoever.

Sturdy and kids love it.
