More recently, I've been using a scale-simulation program and up until now I was making my own cables and trashing them afterwards. Finally got this cable and was surprised that this doesn't have that cheaper plastic sheathing on the outside. You know, the kind that feels super stiff in the cold. Well this cable is strong and flexible.

I needed a female to female serial cable to bypass the hardware lock on the hardware RAID card BIOS in this proprietary storage server I got my hands on. I only really needed a foot long cable, but in general serial cables were never used that short, however they usually, from my experience, weren't 10 feet long either, which means this is really nice if you are using it for an old modem or something, too. The cable build is solid, it works perfectly well for what I needed it for, and for under $3 you cannot beat the price, literally. At 28 cents per foot, this is the cheapest serial cable I found on the world wide web information super highway.

I was able to use it straight out of the package. no adapter or converters needed. I have a serial port on my laptop and was able to connect it easily. use vt100 for the keyboard emulation and no flow control that was the only mode I need to make on the config. Great price. it saved me $30 dollars by not getting a cable specifically for the unit.
