These are dependable, have a long shelf life, last long in use, and never leak

We've used these Duracell Procell batteries for many years, going back to the previous black, gray & red color scheme. These batteries are dependable; have a fantastic shelf life; last long during use; and (AND!) have never leaked. Plus, we've never had a dead battery right out of the package. That's all we need from our batteries.

As an added bonus: the blank copper-colored areas make for a perfect place to write the install date onto these batteries. Black Sharpie ink shows up perfectly. >>You should always date batteries when you install them.
Regarding their main competitor: we've had constant trouble with Energizer batteries leaking, and we've had to discard over $100 of electronic equipment caused by numerous leaking Energizer batteries. These were from many different lot dates; and were of the AAA, AA, C, and D cell sizes. We'll never buy Energizer batteries again.

Thanks for reading this review.
Works like a charm in outdoor fixtures, going strong 5 months now.

These were purchased for lighting that would be used outdoors. Reading other reviews, this particular line handles much better with very cold temperatures - something I would have never thought of. I was surprised when receiving them, they appear to be more of the professional quality, and the weight also feels heavier than the standard copper top from the discount store. These have been in use since August, and now is January, and work like a charm in the fixtures where they are housed. I will continue buying in bulk like this, and this grade is not found in stores. I'm feeling a little battery snobbery now too. My friends have never seen this line of Duracell before!
Awful, Inconsistent, Unreliable!

I purchased these batteries for an emergency aerator that required 2 D batteries. I decided to go with a name brand battery and sprung for the "Pro" thinking it would last longer. What a mistake! It's been 3 days and I've gone through the entire box. Keep in mind, I am only using these batteries in 1 device and that's it! 1 pair of batteries lasted more than 24 hours. 1 pair lasted 18 hours. The rest of the batteries lasted less than 12 hours. That is ridiculous performance and definitely not what I would call Duracell quality! Very disappointing and I definitely won't rely on Duracell again.
Dead Batteries Shipped To Me Before Hurricane

Ordered 24 Duracell D cell Procell batteries prior to Hurricane Irma, received delivery days before it hit. Great! Until I went to use the batteries after my power was out. The new Duracell Procell batteries were dead! Tried in multiple flashlights, then tried 9 of them in a battery operated fan. Neither flashlight nor fan worked. Put some 2011 D cells I still had from old hurricane in both flashlight and fan worked! These Procell batteries were terrible. Amazon was great giving me a refund. They didn't want batteries shipped back so threw them in the trash.
They LEAK!
Curtis D Gomez✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 14, 2017
Well they are cheaper than some, but that's the caveat. I bought these in March 2017 to use in my Lutron Serena Motorized Blinds. The D cell Duracell Procells were replacing some Energizers. The Energizers had been running the blinds for about 16 months, after which they needed to be replaced.
So here we are only six months later and I noticed one of the blinds was stalling. On inspection, one of the Procells was leaking and contaminating the battery contact. I cleaned the contact and replaced with new Procells that came from the same box as the previous. The blind didn't work. Took out the new batteries and found another leaking battery! The three blinds are custom made for the windows and cost hundreds of dollars and now one of them is not functioning properly.
I measured the remaining new batteries with a Fluke 87 III multimeter. The remaining batteries measured 1.5VDC which is what they are rated at, but a new battery that has no load should read 1.6 to 1.7VDC. Which, by the way are what the Energizers read before I put them in.
So buyer beware.
