Great material! It's way shorter than in the photo, but that may be the result of a returned item

First, to be fair to Terramar, the external package was already torn into at the bottom (with two pieces of scotch tape holding it closed) and it was inside an internal plastic bag which was also already open. It's very possible that whoever returned them had washed and shrunk them, but having never bought these pants before, I can't tell. I just want to share my experience, but feel free to take the length issue with a grain of salt. I'm extremely disappointed, however, that Amazon is sending items out like this.
Anyway, the material is great, but these pants are nowhere near as long as they appear in the photos. They stop about 2-3 inches above my ankle bone. It's not so high that high/mid-calf crew socks won't overlap it by a bit, but it's still very disappointing because it leaves a relatively significant cold spot on my lower legs. As far as pants go, I usually wear a size 4 or sometimes a 6, but the size small felt more like a 4. I don't find the waist to be too small, but the lack of give can be felt in the knee (which is to be expected with 100% silk - it's not really a stretchy material.) That can be forgiven, since nobody really sits like that for prolonged periods of time, and even when I've sat frog-style for a long period of time, it's not that bad that it bothers me. It's not even really noticable when sitting with my legs crossed, but the gap at the end is pretty disappointing. One good thing is that the Terramar Thermasilk Sock Liners more than cover the gap, and I have no worries about the liners sliding down so much that my skin would be exposed.

Two thumbs up, no goose bumps.

I love these - they're my favorite for wearing under denim jeans. They're thin enough that they'll fit under pretty much everything without the uncomfortable bulk but definitely help me keep warm.
Winter conditions in my area: generally down to 20 or slightly below.

Offers a slight layer of protection against the cold

4 stars as they really are quite thin, and not as soft others I've owned previously. I bought them for the snow, which they're OK for if not planning to stay out for an extended period. They're like a pair of looser fitting semi-opaque or semi-sheer pair of tights. Has a dry, slightly crisp hand with tiny pointelle dots in the weave. Be nice if the vendor offered this company's slightly thicker, softer weave that's more like an opaque tight in weight, without the pointelle dots, and with softer hand feel. I'm certain the cost would be slightly higher. But would be nice to offer both, as the other version is also slightly warmer. Just that much warmer to make a difference in the snow. This is the only vendor online selling the Terramar Thermasilk Pants.
I will update about how they wear. But for now I'd say the crisp hand probably lends a degree of durability to them as they really are fairly thin. Am taking extra care by storing in a plastic bag and using a laundry bag and cold water washing to keep them in good shape.

Rough fabric

These Terramar silks are a disappointment. The silk is very rough/scratchy feeling and the elastic in the waist is disproportionately small. I can't wear these and be comfortable.
Great under-layer for backpacking
Salahan✓ Verified Purchase•July 6, 2016
I use this and a matching top to sleep in when I am out backpacking in the back country. Warm or cool, these are perfect for staying comfortable at night. They add just enough warmth when the night air gets nippy and just enough breath-ability when its hot and humid at night. The fabric can snare easily, but little snares here and there do not affect it's function in the least. The fit is perfect, the material feels good on my skin. It is very light weight and takes up very little space in my clothing bag. It's a perfect addition as an under layer if it gets chilly while i hike as well. I would never go on a backpacking trip without them.
