This was my first juicer. And I couldn't be happier that I chose this one to start out with. I believe in doing things right the first time, especially when making an expensive purchase, because it tends to pay off in the long run. I did pretty extensive research on juicers before finally narrowing down my choices, and although this is by no means the only quality juicer out there, the things that set the Tribest Green Star apart (for me) were the following:
- Magnetic / Bio-Ceramic Technology to help extract & create maximum nutritional quality while also minimizing oxidation
- Ability to juice a wide variety of produce, including LEAFY GREENS and WHEAT GRASS
- High yield / dry pulp (although I still often run my pulp through a second time)
- Low RPM and crushing/pressing action vs the destructive high-speed cutting & spinning action of a centrifugal juicer
- Option of making juice ahead of time and storing for later (up to 48 hours, although fresh is still best!) thanks to the low RPM speed and the magnetic technology mentioned above
The last point mentioned above is a huge bonus point IMO, because it takes some of the overwhelm out of juicing for a busy or working person. Which would be...everyone, these days? Sometimes striving for perfection (freshly-juiced juice EVERY time you drink it) just simply isn't realistic 100% of the time. But looking at your choices on a "Good, Better, Best" continuum (as John Kohler of Discount Juicers so practically points out), you can reason that "stored" juice that is a few hours or a day old is still a better choice than NO juice or, worse yet, a sugar-laden soda or Frappuccino etc. All any of us can do is the best that we are able to, choice by choice, day by day. We each have to work within the constraints of our own lives and schedules. And the slower degradation of a juice made in the Green Star allows a little more flexibility than many other juicers. So I LOVE this feature, and still feel like I am doing something good for myself even if I have to make my juice ahead of time.
There is a learning curve to juicing (in general), along with becoming familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of any particular juicing machine, because they WILL all have their strengths and weaknesses. So for any newbies, here are a few tips from me:
- There are three dots on the twin gears. Two on one gear, one on the other gear. Very important to make sure the dots are lined up to form a triangle before inserting them. So it looks something kind of like this ==> :-
- For best results, alternate soft and hard fruits/vegetables or rotate through different textures (i.e.juice a leaf of kale, then a slice of apple, then a slice of beet, then a soft cucumber, etc. Repeat.)
- Leafy greens will have a tendency to produce foam, so either alternate your leafy greens with other things (see above), or if juicing only leafy greens (such as wheat grass), drip a few drops of flaxseed oil into the feed chute first to coat the gears (this helps reduce the space between the gears when juicing something narrow like grass or leaves, and thus helps cut down some on the foaming)
- Feed your produce in slowly. There is a reason the feeding chute isn't bigger than it is. So don't overload the machine in your excitement to drink your beautiful juice. ;)
- Adding some lemon or lime can help with flavor, as well as with preservation of the juice if you are planning to store it for a bit before drinking. Also, juice the peel - this is where some of the nutrients are! (After washing it, of course).
- Start gradually with beets - they are a wonderful liver de-toxer, but you may not want to detox too much, too fast.
Now, let's talk about clean-up.
At first, I felt like there were a lot of parts to clean up after juicing, and I was afraid this would be a deterrent. But quite frankly, the quality of the juice is worth it! I do not mind the prep (washing and cutting the fruit/vegetables into manageable sizes that will fit into the juicer's feeding chute) or the clean-up involved - ANY MORE - but it did take me some time to find a system or rhythm to it all, one that works efficiently for me. It helps for me to start with a clean kitchen and clean sink, so that after juicing I can just disassemble the juicer and rinse all the parts immediately under warm water in the empty sink, letting the pulp go down the garbage disposal. (I do, however, try to brush the majority of the pulp off first into the pulp container that I used during juicing, simply because I have my doubts on whether I should be rinsing so much pulp down my disposal). Then I use a simple kitchen brush to scrub the nooks and crevices of the parts while rinsing them under the water. Lastly, I return to the juicer and wipe it down around the area where the gears attach to the base / motor, because there will be a small amount of pulp left behind. With practice, this whole process really has become a fairly quick procedure!
So should you get this juicer? I don't know. It depends on what YOU are wanting to get out of a juicer, because every juicer has its forte, even if it is just simply ease of use without any consideration of the juice quality. Besides the Green Star, I also looked at the Omega 8000 series, the Omega VRT 350, the Champion, and I even briefly considered a cheaper centrifugal model for "starting out." But it just didn't make sense to me to go to the trouble of juicing - for my health - and not start out with the best model that I could find and afford that would yield the best quality juice, with the most nutrition left intact! Juicing is not for everyone. But I can't imagine it not being for me! It doesn't take long for your body to start craving the real, living nutrition that is in something like a beautiful, fresh juice!

OMG!!! I hate this juicer. Honestly, I had such high hopes that this juicer would rock my world, but it did not in so many ways. First of all I cannot believe the amount of muscle it takes just to push the veggies through, especially the carrots. I mean give me a break! I had to keep stopping the machine to dig out the carrots that were stuck in the feeding chute. Seriously, by the time I juiced two cups I was totally frustrated and just perplexed that such an expensive unit could be so bad. Then I had to clean up, and no kidding here, there are 10 parts that you must clean.
I cannot wait to get this machine back in the box and out of my life.
I'm going to order the Champion Juicer and I really hope that it rocks.
