This is for X10 devices and requires a radio wave receiver and X10 controlled electronic devices.

The only reason I bought this is to replace an old remote where one of the channels was not consistently working. This is old analog technology with an analog carrier signal added to the AC power. It is subject to interference from noise in the AC power. However, if you have a significant number of these x10 devices in use, then it is worth buying. It is a simple on/off signal unless light is incandescent which allows some of the light controllers to work as dimmer switches. One incandescent light in a circuit with LEDs will also allow the dimming feature to operate. There are hard relay switches (on/off) that allow LED or fluorescent use. It is also about 1/2 the cost of the new digital controllers.
Label tag area for each button should be larger... Works with new style BSR, not with older units

I got this because my old BSR controller died. Original BSR units from the 70's do not work with this unit as I found out after I got it. I finally upgraded my appliance and lamp devices and their controllers to the new style and everything worked perfectly. Remember that the appliance and lamp units will receive a signal from the controller only if it is plugged into that portion of your house wiring that is on the same side. With a 240 volt system there are two sides, and you need two separate controllers, each plugged into a socket on half of the wiring to fully cover devices plugged into one or the other side. This hand-held unit talks to the controller, which in turn sends the signal through the wiring to lamp or appliance units that are attached to the same wiring as that controller.
Perfect replacement

We "inherited" two of these remotes when we moved into our house almost 8 years ago. Just recently they stopped working even with new batteries. We bought these to replace the broken ones and they work perfectly with the main units we already have. All we had to do is put in batteries and they worked just like the old ones. A seamless transition.
X10 keeps on working

I still use some old X10 remote modules to control indoor Christmas lights. I was downto one controller that still worked and did not expect to find another. Checked Amazon and found Botha controller and a wireless module. They were both put into service within minutes of their arrival. X10 still has some usefulness.
