Seachem Purigen, 100 ml

Key features
- •FILTRATION: Seachem Purigen is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at an excelled rate and capacity.
- •SELECTIVITY: Seachem Purigen is an organic filtration resin that works hard to remove nitrogenous compounds and waste produced by fish, corals, and even plants, making your water crystal clear.
- •CAPACITY: Being both spherical and macroreticular, Seachem Purigen has microscopic pores that increase its usable surface area to many times that of a purely spherical resin.
- •REGENERATION: Once Seachem's Purigen is exhausted, it can be regenerated with a solution of bleach and water. The bleach and water solution will literally "burn off" the organics that have been removed from the tank.
- •SAFETY: Some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of bleach/chlorine is detectable. In case of doubt, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.

WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD!
VW Bug✓ Verified Purchase•September 29, 2017
==>I started out, buying one of these bags. Loved it. Absolutely worth every penny!
==>I now have one bag for each of my aquariums{a 10 gallon quarantine tank/a 40 gallon tank/and a 60 gallon tank}.
==>I have great filtration in all three aquariums. And they keep my tanks super clean. I bought one of these bags, to see if my water quality could "actually" be even better.
==>WOW!...I'm glad I did! The picture on the bag is how chrystal clear your water will be{Weeeell...Minus the blue and green colors. Go marketing! lol}.
==>If your tank is 100 gal.or less...you only need "one" bag. 100+gal.=2 bags. 200+gal.=3 bags. If you need any more examples of bags per gallon. You probably shouldnt own an aquarium. joke
==>These bags "are" reuseable. And sealed on all four sides. Just rinse under tap water and plop it in the back of your filter.
==>The media is superfine smooth round plastic pieces. A tad bigger than regular salt. It is sealed on all four sides, in a thick high quality, extremely fine mesh bag.
==>When the media inside the bag gets discolored, you can refresh it. If you can afford new ones, great! Send your old ones to me{joke}Seriously though, when it discolors. Its much cheaper to rinse them in warm water and plop the back in your filter. ==>if it gets "really" discolored use bleach. Than rinse that puppy until you dont smell bleach any more. As an extra precaution...Rinse in a bowl of clear water. Test your water and add Seachem Prime or whatever dechlorinator that you use. Until its chlorine free.
==>Absolutely worth every penny! I hope this was helpful.

Easiest and best product I've used in over 30 yrs
Althea Smith✓ Verified Purchase•June 23, 2017
This product is the best. I've had fishes since I was a child and I never saw something that worked this well. I tried it in my 72 gallon tank first as I've waste generating blood cichlids in with my small kois, and the water was a bit stained from meds, natural rocks and other stuff. Fifty percent Water changes helped but this stuff cleared it up in 2 days. My boyfriend who knows nothing much about fishes came in on the weekend and said "what did you do the water looks really clear". I also used it on my 32 gallon tank which usually looked quite clear since I bought a uv filter, but this made it crystal clear in a couple days.
Better Than Carbon and Perfect for my Aquaclear!
Thomas Crouse✓ Verified Purchase•October 2, 2016
This stuff is absolutely excellent. It fits perfectly in my Aquaclear 20 HOB filter and gave me crystal clear water 24 hours after inserting it. I will come back to update my review after I try to regenerate it but it does claim to last a long time before this needs to be done so I will review that as well. The bag it comes in is great and sturdy as well but the seams WILL pop if you handle it too rough. Luckily I was easily able to seal right back up with my vacuum sealer but everyone may not have this luxury.
EDIT:
4/18/2017- I regenerated Purigen for the first time, and my packet came out looking absolutely snow white after following the directions! Really amazed how simple it was and how disgusting the beads had gotten. Really shows you how much this stuff works.

I have a Tetra whisper filter medium sized for a 10 gal tank with 2 lg goldfish and 2 good sized plecos about 4-6" each

Works well, reviews were very handy. I have a Tetra whisper filter medium sized for a 10 gal tank with 2 lg goldfish and 2 good sized plecos about 4-6" each.
The bag that arrived would not fit in along with my charcoal media, but it does fit in nicely when I use the outer filter bag from the Tetra bio bag with the purigen bag inside. Water has never been this clear in a loooong time.
What I did not know until reading the directions is that - yes you can regenerate the filter beads with household bleach, but then you need to use another product (Prime) to make the filter safe to put in the tank again. I might just try flushing it real well and using my normal water conditioner to treat, but scared for my fish that I've had for about 5 yrs now. Especially the one that likes to dance to Stevie Nicks!
Any body else have info on how they regenerate their purigen filter?

This is the best way to get crystal clear water
Gemma Gleaves✓ Verified Purchase•April 19, 2016
Purigen acts as a polishing filter and removes discoloration from aquarium water, including tannins. This is the best way to get crystal clear water, especially if you have a naturally planted tank. I was hesitant to try it, but decided to give it a shot after some driftwood placed in my freshwater tank starting leaching tannins.
Purigen consists of some small white "beads" in a mesh bag. I placed Purigen in my filter, before the normal filter pads, and the water cleared up in just a couple of days. The best thing about Purigen is that you can "recharge" it after it gets old (you can tell because the small beads turn brown). Just place the pouch in a solution of 50% bleach and 50% water for 24 hours, then rinse it well and soak it in water and tap water conditioner (to remove any residual chlorine from the bleach). After that the beads turn white again, and you can stick it right back in your tank!
