I bought this cleaner to repair a badly damaged game CD rom disk. It worked, but I had to run the CD through the cycle several times. In the end, I was able to repair the CD and get the game installed on two computers. The only problem? Some of the scratches in the disc are seemingly worse now. However, the CD runs fully, the gamed installed, grandson happy. Would recommend the device. But if you have a really badly scratched disk, BE CAREFUL you don't make it worse.

I read the lengthy reviews with great appreciation - before I purchased. Agree that it is a great value, relative to the price point. I applied 2 drops of repair fluid to YELLOW pads and ran it for 60 seconds. It did NOT shut off automatically after 20 secs. (as written), but will stop when I press the "OPEN" button. After the very first activation, the disc drive will start as soon as the cover is closed. I consider this only a small flaw, as it seems to work. Have repaired 3 discs to date and all three operate flawlessly. After repairing, I do a quick pass with the blue, lint-free wipe (provided). Not sure how to keep pads clean between uses,...am experimenting with water. Agree instructions are lame. I downloaded two of the reviews and used them as interim guidance. Good luck!!

As a whole, it is super easy to operate. My 6yo can use it. The cleaning option works great, if used more than thrice consecutively it will lead some streaks that need to be wiped off with a microfiber cloth. The repair portion made me nervous after reading reviews but we had a few CDs that were worth risking it. Most of them did improve in play quality but one was made much worse. After repairing it had a ring that had been rubbed straight through the disk. I could see print from the label showing through. It was completely ruined. So, maybe 9 times out of ten it works. I haven't gotten the courage to try the red pads yet...
I sent a message to the company about it destroying my discs and I was very pleased with the quickness of their response and although it was too late for me to return for a full refund (per Amazon's policy) I thought the resolution they offered was very reasonable and satisfying.

As others have written, the instructions are terrible. In general, you should not use this if your discs are working perfectly fine. It WILL leave little scratches on the bottom, but this is a necessary part of trying to repair the disc. So far, it's been able to clean and repair 20/20 of the DVDs I tried.

Here's my summary of the features:

Blue wheels - for cleaning. Apply some cleaning solution to the pad on the blue wheel and press the clean button. The device will stop itself after about 30 seconds. Important! Make sure you fully screw in the wheels or it will really scratch up the bottom of the disc.

Yellow wheels - for polishing. Apply some of the "repair" solution to the pad on the yellow wheel and press the repair button. The device will run much longer, but it will stop on its own. You will need to wipe the disc off after to remove and left over solution. You may also run it through a cleaning cycle

Red wheels - BEWARE. This will take some layers off the bottom of the disc. This is a good thing if you're dealing with deep scratches. I had some scratches that were very deep and the disc could not be read. I did 3-4 repair cycles with the red wheels and noticed they were smoothed out significantly. Then I did a polish cycle and a clean cycle and was able to read the disc perfectly.
