Honestly, I've played other instruments"“none of which are string"“but I'm having a difficult time hearing the problem with the instrument. Tuning is a challenge at times, but nothing a little firm pressure on the pegs won't fix. There is some white noise or vibration that is present, which I'm not sure to attribute to the strings or the instrument but I'd say its the strings as I had to readjust the bridge as I bought mine used and the bridge had been held in place slanted for a while. Could also be the plastic sleeve on the A-String but again, I'm not quite sure. Unless you're a professional player, or advanced I doubt you'll tell the difference if you're just a beginner. Its not always the instrument's fault, even if you've been playing for a while I believe that some instruments"“not all"“take a bit more effort to produce good sound. I'm no violin teacher/instructor but I've been recommended the Stentor 1500 if anyone is still having trouble with a decision. its a good $70 more than this Palatino, but definitely worth it.

I wanted to try to learn a bit of violin, due to the fact that it is tuned the same as my mandolin. For a beginner's model I found this one to be great, and to be quite pretty. Now I know this is no concert violin, but it is great to start out on. It is even all solid woods with an ebony chin-rest and ebony tuners. It can be a pain to tune but you get used to it I suppose. If you want to try out violin, I'd get this, and if you like it you can upgrade later.
