Remo Tubano

Gorgeous drum, love the sounds and looks. 3 of these (14, 12, 10 inches) as a set, worth extra cost to me.
Remo doesn't sell these skin as a set. These are heavy for a ladies, if handling weight can be an issueget a Remo tubanos that fits inside of each drum, 3 becoming 1, much lighter, sounds just as good. For intermediate drummer for drumcircles, both sets are great. Depends on individual handling preferences.

I was looking for a casual, yet serious drum for my wife. The size and cost of a full blown professional conga like LP would have been overkill for the informal jamming we do. That said, we wanted the sound and feel of a "real" instrument. The REMO Tubano delivers on all fronts. Even though the 10" is the smallest of the 3 sizes available (highest pitch,) it does also deliver rich, warm, punchy low notes as well. Really a cool sounding drum. Further, none of the on-line pictures do the "Rainbow" pattern justice. It is lively, festive and a joy to behold. Although not a percussionist myself, over the years I have worked professionally with several master percussionists so I know what good drums sound like. The Tubano is a fine "value" instrument with good sound, sturdy construction, and a fair price at the $180 mark.

A good and durable hand drum. We do twice weekly open mic nights / jams at my bar. This works.
