I've purchased several brands of gel fuel for my fireplace. This is a great value for the money vs other brands - ordering through subscribe and save qualified me for an additional 5%. Free shipping/Prime option makes it cost effective since the box is heavy and would cost quite a bit to ship otherwise - maybe to a cost prohibitive level. I like this particular brand because it doesn't have labels on the sides of the can (you have to remove paper labels of other brands because they'll catch fire and burn when the can gets hot). Having only a label on the lid saves time, as the lid isn't used when burning the fuel therefore no need to remove the label.

On the not so good side, this brand doesn't "crackle" as much as others and has a slightly unpleasant smell when the can is nearly burned out. I wouldn't call it offensive and it hasn't caused me to stop using the brand, but the first time I used this vs other brands I did notice it.

If this and Real Flame were offered at the same price, I'd buy Real Flame. But the significant cost difference causes me to choose this brand instead.

The best feature is not having to remove any paper from the outside of the can, makes much more sense. They did not have as long a burn time as my other brand, about 15 minutes less.

The media could not be loaded. I have no complaints other than the fact that the sternos don't fully burn all of the fluid. I've purchased other brands before and this is a common pattern so I can't hold it against this brand specifically. You may have a moment where there's a slight smell but then it goes away and doesn't come back. I use 1 sterno at a time but usually put up to 3 in my fireplace. Even 1 can let's off a nice amount of heat and these crackle and pop like a real fire. Burn time per can is about 2 hours, give or take. I'd buy again!

So these fuel cans are really nice. I recently tried them out after buying another brand for the last couple of years. The heat they put out is great, a decent amount more than the other cans i was buying. They have a good crackling sound as well. I had to knock it down a star though due to the performance of the fuel. First off, they don't last 3 hours. If it burns all the fuel, it will last maybe 2 1/2 hours, but I have a bigger problem with all the fuel not burning. I have had about 6 cans thus far out of the 12 I have burned not burn all the fuel. Sometimes it is just a little bit, sometimes it is almost half the can. I can re-lite it but it will only stay lit for a minute or so, then go out. I shake up the fuel before opening them per the instructions but it still does it.

I've tried several brands and I like SunJel the best. Real flame may burn longer, but it has an awful smell. The only time I smell this is right before its finished burning. Even then, it's brief and not really worth noticing. My only complaint is that this stuff is so bloody expensive. But, since I don't have the option of a wood burning or gas fireplace, then this does the trick adequately. FYI: the best tool to open the cans are the small metal paint can openers that you can get at Lowes, Home Depot or any paint place. Just ask an associate at the paint counter for one and they'll give you one for free. I keep it on a magnetic hook on my refrigerator for easy retrieval.
