VERY handy tool to have!
J. Smith•August 13, 2017
I use this for sorting bolts and nuts in my garage as well as determining the thread type for firearm scope mounting. I have a wheeler chart with general guidelines for torque specifications of different commonly used bolts to mount rings and scopes. Once I determine what the thread is, I can cross-reference it on the chart and have a good idea of the range I should shoot for when torqueing down my components.
Good "inch" Screw Gauge
Michael Wood•June 29, 2017
If it included size 1 screws, it would be a five star. I have been cleaning out forty years of auction buys and leftovers in the shop, and this relatively expensive gauge (and it's metric counterpart) have helped.size several thousand machine screws. Expensive, but useful!
Solid and easy to use. Will last forever.

Surprisingly heavy. This is a thick piece of steel with accurate holes and threads. They constructed it so you can easily check the nominal size before trying the coarse or fine options. My only gripe is that the finish is a quite rough bead blasted finish, not satiny smooth like I expect from quality machinists tools.
Busy But Easy to Use Screw Checker
David C•May 10, 2017
The screw checker works as described and comes with reference numbers imprinted into the checker. It also comes with a small sheet of paper with some instructions and more tables.
I tried several bolts and the checker worked fine.
I rated the checker as 4 out of 5 because I find it a little hard to read, not that the printing is too small but because there is a lot of information on the checker and you have to be careful how to read it.
If I was getting something I would use a lot or when I first started to need a checker (this one is a replacement), I think I would opt for two separate checkers - one for diameter and one for threads (with the thread checker thicker).

Everybody should have one of these handy. In a shop environment they are worth their weight in gold.
