I bought this item with great trepidation after reading the majority of reviews here. But I needed a relatively simple solution that would enable me to transfer old camcorder footage to DVD. I don't know whether Sony has upgraded the machine, or I'm simply lucky, but it works perfectly. I've transferred more than 10 hours of footage to DVD since taking it out of the box a couple of days ago and it's working without a hitch. So, in my experience, an easy-to-use solution in a convenient, relatively small and fairly intuitive package. It's exactly what I needed.

So lucky to find this recorder. Records excellent. Could have had been made with video out jacks,though! But having to take the finished dvd out and put it in another player does give you the feel of having a professional dvd burner. Which I guess you could say it is. Compact size,heavy duty construction. Download the manual from SONY and your good to go!!!!!

I got this one back on 2002 to make copies of my old Beta and VHS tapes. I read the instructions and it did the job. The picture quality depends mostly on the source, don't expect the device to clean up the image for you. The auto chapter is useful but sometimes it creates unnecessary chapters. I was thinking of giving it away until I needed it again and after so many years it works just as the first time. Keep your cables just in case, you never know when they may come handy. Overall, I'm very happy with this device.
