Very poorly designed overpriced, possibly dangerous product.

We use a trolling motor almost everyday to go the short distance from the mainland, to our island off the coast of Connecticut. For 18 years I have bought inexpensive flooded batteries that worked reasonably well. To extend our range we splurged and bought this Optima battery. It simply does not hold a charge as well as cheaper batteries and is poorly constructed. It not only heats up being charged, but after about the 30% draw down, the terminals heat up dangerously and start melting the cheap soft plastic top. We are lucky, it has not exploded. A complete waste of money.

This is in my f250 ford with the 7.5l engine. This battery has never let me down and has plenty of power for my pop-up camper along with my 1500 watt stereo system. Living in the heat of Las Vegas any battery I have had won't last more then 2-3 years and this battery shows no sign of slowing down after over 4 years. Since buying this one, I have added optima redtop's to my wife's expedition and my GMC truck and haven't had any issues with those either.
