A good safely aid for cane users.

An inexpensive safety aid for those of us who must use a cane and live in areas where there may be some ice or hard packed snow underfoot. Installation takes only a few minutes and requires only a screwdriver. It easily folds away when coming indoors to protect floors and carpets. Be sure to wear shoes or boots with good traction, too, or ice grips on your shoes. Can easily be removed in spring when danger of slipping is over.
Doesn't work well for larger rubber tips

These are okay for canes that have small tips. If you're using a larger tip, you better be handy with tools to bend the rods to fit. I was able to do that but still need to put something less smooth on top of the pointy end. It does fold up well when not needed, but it's easy to snag onto things, especially leather seats!

Great for traction on snowy icy surfaces, and easily flips up out of the way when you don't need it. I found it to be a bit bulky for every day use and it caught on things at times, so I attached it to a spare cane to be used only when I need it. It gives me a lot of confidence when I have to go out in foul weather.

Ordered this for a friend and we live in Maine (10 months of excellent skiing and 2 that you don't need to wear the heaviest coats made). She said this is very worthwhile and it has been helping her.

I put one of these on the end of a walking staff I made for my 89 year old neighbor. He's active and walks daily, but winter snow and ice made him apprehensive. This robust device is simple to attach and operate. He is pleased and more at ease on his walks. I see the device as providing reassurance on ice and snow if you use a cane or walking stick, but I would caution against applying full body weight, or any strong side-loading, when it is engaged for use; the two thick wires holding the pronged tip could bend outward, even with the pronged tip snug against the cane tip.
