Works great as long as you understand physics 101!

This is the second one of these I've bought. The first one lasted until I neglected to drain it prior to an arctic front moving in which, understandably, caused it to fracture. I attached mine to a post utilizing the screw holes in the base. I like the large print which makes it easy to read from 10' away.
I see some negative reviews about this gauge cracking and breaking in cold weather. Also people complaing that it broke when they pounded it in to the ground. Folks, this is made of acrylic plastic. It's very brittle. Hamering on it is bound to break it. If you can't just push it in to the turf then you need to find a new spot or pound in a stake and then mount it to the stake.
Cold weather: same thing - if you leave it out in below freezing temps with water collected in it it is GOING to BREAK! Physics 101: freezing water expands and will crack this open.
This gauge is no different than any other whether plastic or glass: freezing temps will expang collected waater causing a fracture, And pounding on it is just dumb!

Easy Reading Rain Gauge

I love this rain gauge AcuRite. It's so simple and easy to use, just stick it in a plant or nail it to a post, and you can read the amount of rain, from at least 20 feet, all while being dry and inside your home. This rain gauge also lasts a long time, so you won't need to re-purchase one annually. It came to me packed well and in great condition. I'd purchase from this seller anytime, they are the best.
Accurate and easy to read.

The gauge is accurate when compared to other gauges. It is easy to read down to tenths of an inch and easy extrapolation to hundredths of an inch. It is easy to empty and replace in wall mounted position. After a couple years in the sun the plastic has clouded significantly, but is still easy to read. Thought about a replacement until I dropped it and it shattered. 4 stars due to the clouding and extreme brittle after prolonged exposure to the sun. Well worth the price for value and quality and I would strongly recommend this product.
works just like you expect

This is a wonderful little tool for collecting and measuring rainfall. My son loves it. He goes out after every rain and measures how much rain we got and then records it in his journal. You don't have to mount it to anything, just push it into the lawn and then take it out when the rain's over. Since it's plastic, I wouldn't leave it out in the sun for long.
Sturdy - Highly Visible Measuring Lines

This gauge survived sub-zero temps in our yard without cracking. We mounded it to a wooden fence board using screws that stick out about 1/4 of an inch. This makes it easy to remove and empty. I found it is best to empty it regularly and not let water sit inside. If water freezes inside it could cause the cracking that is described in other reviews.
