This shifter functions great on an 8 speed shimano derailleur at an affordable price. I would have given it 5 stars but the handle bar clamp is low quality and has s Phillips head screw instead of an Allen screw and seems a bit flimsy.

I have an old road bike and shifter broke. I bought this to replace Shimano 105 left shifter. Economic reasons. This shifter was shipped on time and works great.

Just what I wanted. Comes with cables. Installed in minutes. Works like it should. Price was right too. I slipped off the bulky rubber cushions and use them with just the metal levers.

I was surprised to see this was made in China. The previous version was made in Taiwan. The Chinese version appeared to have misalignment between the upper and lower black components. The levers had hard edged geometry in places, instead of being nicely rounded off. This could indicate a skipped step in production. There were long, black, and thin plastic fibers hanging off one of the new levers too.

They operate well and I'm confident they will not have problems. As long as they save me the irritation of setting up indexed shifting they will be fine. I want to be able to simply shift up or down and not have a mismatch between a lever click and the derailer's pulley position over the sprockets. The simple, intuitive nature of friction shifting offers freedom lacking from indexed systems. I can also use brake cable housing for the whole bike too.

Update: They have been working extremely well for 800 miles on an 18 speed bike. The clicking sounds help me shift with consistency, since the number of clicks stays the same over the width of the 6 speed freewheel. Setting up the levers, cable housing, cables, and derailers was fast and easy. Shifting worked nicely right away. Great product!

Great replacement of old mountain bike shifters. The cable housing didn't work with my old bike, I was able to use the housing already on it.
