Maybe I ride the pedals harder than I should. They definitely are very casual bike pedals. I would NOT put these on a mountain bike. I have a single-gear, road cruiser that I ride around in my downtown area. These pedals flex way too much. Don't quite do the trick that straps would do. Honestly, wish I would've bought different ones. These will do the job til I get some replacements.

I got a new bike and found that after a few miles I was peddling with the arch of my foot. Bought these and I am back to the balls of my feet plus they give you an advantage when pushing hard. No straps needed then are strong enough.
Excellent way to transfer extra effort from legs to motion

I like to avoid changing shoes while commuting and doing bike/hike combined recreation. These enabled that very well on my road (hybrid) bike.
The L/XL size fit my big feet in US mens size 13D Timberland hiking sneakers, both in positioning my foot on pedal and in getting in and out of them easily. I tried a couple of other toe clips with straps on an earlier bike and on my current bike, and in both cases ended up with strapless to allow more confidence that I can bail out and also to make it easier to get my foot in when launching. These clips don't need straps to work well.

you have to make sure the pedals you want to attach these to are compatible. I just bought a new bike and the initial pedals i had installed were not. fortunately i hadn't ridden the bike before noticing and was able to exchange them out. recuperating from a knee injury im using the bike as part of my rehab kit, but im not allowed to fully clip in yet. this is a nice bridge to retain as much energy from the pedal, without fully committing to clip ins. the are easy to get out of for short notice stopping, though still require a hint of thought. to get into them only takes a few times to practice as there is now an "up" and "down" side to the pedals. but they are durable, and do not scrape against the ground when pedaling and not in use.
