Long term review: Direct replacement for BMW E85/E86 Z4 oil filter

I purchased this oil filter for my 2004 BMW Z4 (E85/E86) in 2011. It lasted for years in conjunction with full synthetic oil, and I plan to purchase them in perpetuity. I do all of the maintenance on my Z4 myself because I want to save money and make sure that the job is done correctly. I went to my local dealership and was told by the parts department that the BMW OEM oil filter was this filter made by Mann. I confirmed this by going to a BMW forum. When I removed the old filter, it was a perfect match, even down to the numbers!
If you are even remotely mechanically inclined, I would highly recommend attempting this job yourself. It can be done safely in your driveway or garage with simple tools and a good set of ramps. Replacement oil pan bolts are available as well. Your local autoparts store has the Castrol European Formula true full synthetic oil on sale every few months. If you are patient or plan ahead you can reduce the price of an oil change by 2/3 and be confident that the job was done correctly. Happy motoring!!

Perfect for 3 liter BMW M54 engine

Exactly the correct filter for BMW M54 engines. I bought this filter for a 2005 BMW E53 X5 3.0i. I used to work at a BMW dealership as a technician. Mann filters were the only filters we were allowed to use when OEM BMW branded filters were unavailable. It is my understanding that Mann makes the OEM filters for BMW. Except for the markings, this filter looks and feels identical to the BMW OEM filter. The filter cap O-ring and drain plug gasket are exactly the correct size and material for the application.
These are nice filters but kinda disintegrate when you change them out

These are nice filters but kinda disintegrate when you change them out. The paper where it seals to the round ends came apart like a soaked piece of toilet paper. Change interval was 3000 miles +- 100

I've been using Mann filters for years. Quality product everytime, with the added bonus that this includes the copper crush gasket/washer for your drain bolt on an E36 BMW. I am also told by Amazon that this fits my 2006 Z4 3.0, but it most certainly does not. It's much too large for the N52 engine. M52 is no problem.
