Same as recorder and song flute.
Excellent, for all ages.
Save Your Money $$$$

If you want to waste your money, go ahead and buy this item. I purchased because my kids love music and musical instruments. While I knew that these were not real instruments I did not expect them to be flimsy and fall apart after a half hour of playtime. I do not typically write reviews but this one warranted my feedback. Save your money!!!!!
Nearly a half step sharp on the low end

The bottom end is sharp, but the top end pitch is pretty good. In order to play in tune, one would have to pull out the mouth piece slightly, until the bottom end is in tune, then get progressively more "loose" on covering up the holes as you go up the scale to bend the higher notes up to pitch. I don't see the typical third grader mastering this technique. My old Flutaphone from 40 years ago is waaaay better.
Decent quality, easier to play than a recorder for the young ones

Oh yes, these are the wonderfully loud and fun flutophones that you remember from your youth! I bought these for my adapted music class and they did just fine with them. The bigger, ridged holes make it easier to find the right place to put your fingers and you can blow as hard as you want on these and (mostly) play the right note. I mention this because I use recorders in my other classes and when students have a hard time it is for one of those reasons... they either can't find the right place to put their fingers or they overblow and play the wrong note.

These are decent quality and are pretty well in tune... well, as in tune as a bunch of children blowing as hard as possible can be! Grab your earplugs, grab some of these and start a rock band ;-)
Looks like higher quality. Doesn't play like higher quality.

I had heard the "song flute" I had bought was a cheaper version of this, and was excited to see the quality difference. Very disappointing. The more cheaply made "song flute" has a much easier tactile fingering grip, holes designed to curve to the hand, and is much less breath sensitive than this thing. The sound quality is no different, either, though this one sounds more like a recorder while the song flute sounds more like an ocarina.
