Not a particularly pleasing sound. It is loud and sharp. Mallet came in a green color. I would not buy this again. The hole is a thin chissled hole. I didnt realize this was non returnable. There is a reason. Spend your money elsewhere.

Please don't get this. It's a piece of cheap wood painted brown. With poor sound, not deep at all. And, my daughter bit into it (as she does for everything) and a chip of wood came out. Seriously? Thankfully she didn't swollow it. Hohner is a good company but this piece is utterly useless.

Genuine Toy. Poor sound, hollow, quiet, hard to make it work like a real percussion block. Cheap construction. This is just a two by four pine block stained brown with a notch cut in it. It made dents in the soft wood the first time it was played.
Since this is for kids, I think there are two serious problems: Delicate, easy to dent, chip and break.
There is not certification that the materials, especially the coating, are non-toxic, especially for the wee ones who like to put things in their mouths.
Also not listed on package where this is made, so presumably Made in China.
