Every Home Should Have One
Jesse Stirling•September 25, 2017
Is there anything worse than getting locked out of your home? Be pro-active, spend a few bucks, and avoid frustration. Obviously, you need a bit of a front yard for this unit to be effective. Doesn't make sense for apartment living, or a condo situation.
But if you have a front or side yard, it's the best few bucks you can invest. Don't be a dunce and put your spare key under your front door mat. Hide your key in plain sight, and avoid that future fight with your significant other.

This a great inexpensive way to hide your spare key

This a great inexpensive way to hide your spare key. Unless you are examining the rock up close you can not tell that it is fake. It works perfectly for its intended purpose. Great item for a great price! Can you tell which one is the fake rock? (Hint: it's the middle one)
Suitable Way to Hide Key in Plain Sight
Ignatius Reilly•August 3, 2015
As been noted previously, the picture of the product provided is misleading. It gives you the impression that there are 2 halves of the rock (which would have been ideal), but that is NOT the case. The picture shown presents the rock upside down with the key and white plastic bottom (which fits into the rocks underside like say it was a piggy bank) next to the rock surface right side up.
There is a small space to house the key, but it suffices.
Someone walking by will not likely notice it if placed among other rocks in your backyard. It would be wise to put it in a discreet spot away from a walking path so that it is not inadvertently knocked over revealing what it really is.
It is suitable way to hide a spare key, but I was somewhat disappointed to see something very similar advertised soon after at half the price at Ace Hardware.

Half Rock with a Poor Lid Design
Jocelyn Flores•June 23, 2015
Product arrived fairly quickly. Buyer beware this is only half of a rock. My key didn't fit as expected. I had to place my key on it's side for it to fit. Lid didn't fit properly after a few openings literally, this issue was resolved by bending the flaps on the lid but worked as a temporary fix. Lid is made out of plastic, base is sturdy flaps/wings of lid are slightly less durable. Lid closes the rock by the wings of the lid pressing against the insides of the rock holding it in place. Not particularly the best design but it works. Rock is quite heavy itself by glancing at the rock you wouldn't be able to tell it's fake. But I decided not to put this in the front of my house because of the risk of someone tipping it over which would be a dead giveaway because of the white lid.

Love the person who invented this - great place to hide a house key without it at all being obvious - blends right in to the lawn area. The fake rock is small and can fit in your hand. The item has some weight and looks very close to a realistic rock. The cover on the back is white plastic and easily pulls out to retrieve the key. I was able to store my spare key that's of normal size. Overall, it's a realistic look. I've placed this rock together with other real rocks. You can't even tell the difference just by looking. However if you run your finger across or hold it, it's an immediate giveaway. So I suggest you pile some real rocks on it and/or rub some dirt on it so it isn't obvious that it's just lying there. I also don't have it near the door rather around the side of the house where the casual observer isn't going to see anyone accessing the fake rock. Highly recommend purchase. I love it and of course my kids love it; as they often forget their keys.
