Unremarkable, but works as advertised

I purchased this product for an early-rising partner whose love affair with the snooze button was waking me up a few too many times in the morning. So we're operating it in vibrate-only mode, not using the audible alarm. For this use case, which is not really its advertised purpose, the product has only been modestly useful. The vibration is strong enough to wake both of us up, even placing the shaker at one corner of our king-size bed. And the noise of the shaker alone would probably be enough to wake me up even if it wasn't vibrating. But it's better than getting blasted awake by an audible alarm three times before I actually need to get up. It would've been nice if the shaker intensity were adjustable---even if it just had a high and low setting. But as I said, quietly waking one person but not another in the same bed is not really the advertised function, so I'll take what I can get and try not to judge the product too harshly in that regard.

The lack of adjustable shaker intensity is pretty consistent with the rest of the device's underwhelming functionality, though. It does what an alarm clock is supposed to do, but it doesn't come off as a particularly polished product. The interface is clunky. If you want a battery backup to guard against the power going out, you have to install a 9V alkaline rather than a long-lasting lithium such as other alarm clocks might use. Really, the whole thing feels like 1990's technology. But it works. And it's not terribly expensive. So I guess given that it wasn't advertised as a don't-disturb-the-person-next-to-you alarm, I guess I have to reluctantly give it four stars. But I wish I could find a reliable, moderately highly rated, plug-in unit for my use case.

DO NOT BUY!! I bought this thinking I finally found an alarm clock that would wake us up. Boy was I wrong! I bought this on June 21st. We've been thinking for a couple of weeks that we were some how sleeping through the alarm. But knowing how well it worked when we first got that made that impossible! Now, on August 29th, it officially crapped out on us. No lights or sounds whatsoever! DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY! I'm headed to buy a Screaming Meanie. SMH
Who makes an alarm clock for heavy sleepers that can loose power with one bump?

This alarm clock's extra features are hurt by the fact that it doesn't even do reliably what other lesser alarm clocks do.

It has some nice features -- the shaker and a loud alarm -- but they are hurt by the fact that this clock doesn't have hard-wired power connection. Who makes an alarm clock for heavy sleepers that can loose power with one bump? The backup battery doesn't keep it working -- it just makes it so you don't have to re-set the time ONCE you reattach the cord and plug it back int to wall.

I needed a go-to alarm clock for my shifting schedule and changing the alarms on this clock is needlessly complicated. The buttons are bizarrely small. Even checking to confirm that your alarms are set for the right time is a two-step process, unlike most regular arlarm clocks.
Simple, LOUD, Unique and does the job

I bought this alarm clock to ensure early morning "alertness" on days when it is critical for me to awaken. Although a full 6-8 hours of sleep is welcomed and recommended, we all know that has become a luxury for many of us. As a second year medical student, I often find myself studying into the early hours of the morning and catching a few hours of sleep. In order to make it to class, I relied on multiple alarms from multiple devices to *hopefully* spring me to life again.
FEATURES:
This fairly compact alarm clock takes up about 6x2 inches of desktop space and enables you to set 2 separate alarm times. You can choose to have your alarm wake you via alarm sound, vibration, or both. The approx. 1-inch display has 5 dimmable settings, and the alarm sound has both volume control and a single tone adjustment. The clock has a 9v battery backup in case of power outages.
PERFORMANCE:
First off, as advertised, this alarm clock is LOUD. I am a fairly sound sleeper (meaning sometimes apartment landscaping mowing the lawn won't always wake me). However, this clock set to a relative volume of 4, which goes up to 10, is plenty loud enough to wake from a distance of 3 feet. I live in a duplex town-home apartment, and believe my neighbor could easily hear the alarm if set to anything over 8.
The unique thing about this alarm clock is the optional vibration disk that can be slipped under your pillow. It plugs into the back of the alarm clock, so it can be detached and put away if you please. However, the vibration is very powerful and readily augments the clock's waking abilities. If you've ever used one of those handheld shoulder massagers, this unit is about twice as powerful, though vibrates at maybe 60 Hz (a lower frequency, which travels well throughout the bed). I've even tested it by placing it between my mattress and box spring, and I could easily feel it to wake me up.
PROS:
Unless you are a complete dead head sleeper, which I would recommend visiting your doctor, this unique alarm clock will indeed wake just about anyone, especially if you use both the vibratory and sonic stimulation. You may not be *happy* that it was able to do that, but you would feel at ease knowing that this clock will wake you at the times set. It takes up very little space. The vibration feature is nice especially in roommate circumstances where you need to be alerted and don't want to wake up everyone else in the house.
CONS:
If you are one who loves to hit the SNOOZE button on your alarm clock, you won't be too happy here. The snooze button is, like all of the other control buttons, a tiny half inch button on top of the device, which is not offset from the other buttons. The only way you know it is actually the SNOOZE button is the little bump on it, which differentiates it from the others.
Also, if you are looking for a SLEEP to music, white noise, watery sounds, etc., forget about it. This is a very basic alarm clock.
However, being very basic, it does its job very well.
Works in a pinch for heavy sleepers, other options are better.

After my full sized Sonic Alert died suddenly, I decided to try the smaller options. I was also psyched that this came in white with dual alarms. I have learned that the vibratory alarm works fairly well to rouse me. This does fill that function. The dimmer works too.

However.

The regular Sonic Alert has smartly designed "snooze" and "alarm off" buttons. This one does not. The Snooze here is very small and not easy to find when snoozing. Just whacking at it I'm as likely to turn the alarm off, like I did this morning, as snooze it. The buttons ARE on opposite sides, but the Snooze is next to the pitch wheel which I hit first most of the time. If I'm hitting Snooze, I don't want to fumble for some middle located button. The wheel feels enough like a button when asleep that it's confusing when the shaking doesn't stop. Also, my fingers are not big, and they are plenty larger than the buttons. (Forgive the mulberry stains under my fingernails. I have no caution around mulberry bushes.) I like a larger snooze button.

Next, I've only had this a couple weeks and 2 of the number making bars have crapped out. See photos. I can still mostly decipher it bc that digit only goes from 0-5 so the identical looking 0,6,8 don't come into play, but still. Bad quality on a part most companies can make in their sleep.

The white clock is NOT white. It's grey with dark gray display. The only white-white thing is the cord to the shaker unit. And that is *identical* to an iPhone charger's cord. Size, color, texture: all the same! Can you tell which is which in my photos? It's not easier in person. I did some cord management and tying which helped, but still. For two things on the nightstand that are used when drowsy? Not a great choice.

While the alarm does wake me up about as well as the full size, the light flashing display is way more evident on the full size. The design and placement of the snooze/alarm off buttons is better in the other. The other one worked for months before failing (tragedy!) this one worked only weeks.

This one is smaller with a worse design, is not the color it's advertised to be, has easy to confuse controls, and had the display partially fail in less than a month. I'm still using it but plan to try the other small one soon. Or go back to the full size and hope that works. Not recommended unless you are desperate for a very loud alarm (+1 star) with a bed shaker (+1 star) and the other versions are unavailable.
