Love this product cause I'm tall but sometimes reaching overhead I'm just shy or it snaps my crayon but with this I get extra reach and no crayon snapping. Also(knock on wood) I have dropped it, sat on it, and everything and no breaks or cracks so far in the casing.

I've used these wooden keel handles years ago while working as a Shipwright (Marine Carpenter). So I know they work great for lumber marking chalks or crayons. I purchased this particular one to see how well it would hold my 6" X 1/2" Bayite Ferro Rod. It does a great job of doing just that.

The first photo shows the 6" Bayite Ferro Rod in the Dixon handle. Notice that only 1.5" remains out. A 5" rod would leave but 1/2".

The second photo shows the 6" Bayite Ferro Rod extended all the way out. It gives you 5.5" of extended ferro rod to strike upon. That gives the handle 1/2" to grip the rod when the aluminum nut is tightened. It appears to work great. However, I'll field test the handle this hiking season here in Montana to learn it's durability and functionality as a handle for a ferro rod.

I use a big red crayon on my job everyday. It stains my hands and then everything I touch. This little wooden holder changed all of that! Just unscrew the bottom and slide in the crayon then make it secure with the metal ring that screws on the top. Easy peasy! Super happy with this purchase!

I bought this do dad to hold a 6 inch by 1/2 inch bayite Ferro rod and I love it. The Ferro rod stays pretty much tucked away and when I need it, I just extend it out use the Ferro rod, then tuck it back away.

Worth the buy.
