Came with an extra tip which was nice. I'm sure this tool will pay for itself ...

I was expecting this tool to make quick work of the cam and crankshaft seal on my '01 Subaru Outback. Had a slow time with getting the tip to hook into a tight fit between the seals and engine walls. Came with an extra tip which was nice.

I'm sure this tool will pay for itself in time but I was expecting to be floored by it after watching all the youtube videos where they used it in 0.7 seconds flat.
Use with care to avoid scratches!
Tom H.August 5, 2017
Watch for surface scratching! It got my old seal out but also scratched the crankshaft surface being sealed. I had to polish out the scratches made. I could have tried a little harder to avoid the scratches, but given the difficulty and awkwardness of the overall extraction it seemed really tough to avoid. I was able to polish out the scratches. A less detail-oriented DIY'er might have missed this and wondered why the new seal wore out prematurely down the road. The little hook piece is strong spring steel, which is much harder than many shaft steels you will be grappling with.
Must have tool!

Must have for removing camshaft and crankshaft seals without damaging the shaft. This tool makes the job quick and easy. Used this tool on a Toyota V6 engine when replacing the timing belt. Another must have tool is the harmonic damper pulley tool for loosening the bolt that hold the pulley on to the crankshaft.
Worked on Jeep TJ
Amazon CustomerDecember 4, 2016
Used this tool to remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Shaft Seal on a 1999 Jeep TJ. There wasn't enough room to use the tool as intended but loosened the screw to the hook, inserted the hook into the gasket and then pulled up on the handle 90degrees to the seal and to my amazement the seal came out. I thought is was going to be a long battle but this tool worked. I had also purchased a set of hooks to try but they were not needed.
Didn't work on a stuck seal
XpertskiRJanuary 30, 2016
I bought this on the recommendation of a friend. I tried it on a very stuck rear main seal, and it wouldn't get it out. It would just bend the metal of the seal. So it definitely has strength to it, but it doesn't get applied well enough to budge a stuck seal. The hook needs to be longer, but then it might bend. I went all the way around the seal and really pushed it hard, and it withstood the abuse, but it just didn't work. I ended up going back to my trusty big screwdriver.

I think it would work great on seals that aren't stuck, or maybe smaller seals like for cams. I want to give it 3 stars just because it seems well made. But...... if it only works on the easy stuff, what's the point of a special tool?
