We bought a 1983 Vermont Castings wood stove from FB marketplace that had been sitting in a garage for a VERY long time. It was fully intact, but had heavy surface rust and needed a good cleaning and refinish. This paste had good ratings and was the right price, so I gave it a shot.

I cleaned the stove with 2 different 3M stripping pads and then cleaned with Red Scotch brite pads. After the clean up and a wipe clean, I applied this paste. It's very easy to use and very thick, so a little goes a long way. Fair warning: It's VERY messy. Make sure you prep the area where you intend to apply it and definitely wear gloves.

Our stove looks BRAND NEW!!! I am very pleased with the finished look of our 37 year old stove, however after our first lighting, it is putting off one hell of an odor. I am hoping that it will dissipate, but as of now we have the stove burning with all the windows open trying to get the smell out. I'd say it's a mix between plastic and burning hair. My kids won't even watch TV in the family room cuz of this smell.

I will update the review in a week once we know if and when the smell goes away.

Edit for Update: the smell goes away after a couple strong fires.

This product does what it claims. Delivery was fairly prompt. Took a little over a week to deliver from originator.

This product was just the ticket for a facelift for my wood stove that had accumulated some stains, rusty spots and other discoloration over the past decade. I followed the simple directions and my stove is now pretty enough for the showroom. Some of the surfaces of my stove are textured and getting the paste deep into the texturing took some extra elbow grease, but it all went on well - super easy on smooth surfaces. Having a fairly damp cloth for application definitely helped to get good coverage on the textured areas. I found it a bit easier to apply more than needed, then once I had full coverage, wipe away the excess (kind of like grouting tile). The directions instruct you to provide ample ventilation the first time heating the stove after applying the paste due to fumes/smoke from the waxes in the paste. I've read in other reviews about an abundance of smoke. I didn't have that issue at all. I had an open skylight, exterior door, and a window open. There was some noticeable fumes, a little smoke, but much less than I was expecting. I don't know how you could possibly recoat a cast iron surface without some. Once my stove got to full operating temperature the fumes were all but gone and within about 20 min from lighting my stove I was able to close the door and windows and enjoy the stove as usual - all good! I'm happy with this product and I would reorder it the next time I recoat my stove.

Saw this recommended on a you-tube video and decided to try it. It was easy to use and made a real difference and improvement.
