Probably not needed, but I haven't had any issues with my Buddy Heater and I don't regret taking the precautions. I think if you use the appropriate hose, this is not needed, but do your research and remember a filter probably won't hurt anything.

I bought this filter with my Buddy heater many years ago, and I was never sure it was really needed or working, so I just had to cut it open and see! As another reviewer stated, this does not have any actual filter media inside, its just an empty chamber designed to allow oils from the rubber hose to drain out of the gas before it goes into the heater and clogs up the microscopic passages in the heater. Based on mine, not only does it work, it works well! one filter should be good for the life of the heater. Mine had maybe four drops of oil in it, which is the result of maybe 40-50 full tanks of fuel over the last 8 years or so. I installed another one and dont plan on changing it again.

Quick and easy to connect. I use it in combination with an adapter to allow re-filling of 1 lb Coleman "green" propane tanks to be use in my Mr. Heater. It does retain some gas so don't be surprised when you disconnect it from the source tank.
