Great for Toyota Prius - easy install/uninstall
James W. Allison✓ Verified Purchase•November 9, 2017
I purchased a pair of SZ129 Super Z6 Cable Chains for my wife's Toyota Prius, and they are AWESOME - there is VERY little clearance between the front tires and the fenders, and these cables slip right in. I have a little problem with the cables hanging-up on the struts when removing them, but the problem is more one of "learning how to install/uninstall" than a problem with the cables themselves.
Best cables for FWD van

Best cables Best trip ever! Last year we bought cheap cables at Walmart, they kept falling off and scratched our car big time. This year we bought these cables instead and these are the best cables. I noticed that everyone had them in the mountains. There's so much snow at Mammoth this season that we had the cables on for 6 days and the cables made our trip a breeze. I didn't have to stress a bit and we drove with our van in 2 feet of deep snow. Our van is FWD and it's not easy to drive in the snow but with these cables, no problem at all. I highly recommend them. It was also easy to put them on and take them off. I used to lose my sleep over this because we have to drive up a steep hill from our condo in the mountains and we kept sliding last year and couldn't make it up. Not this year. The cables made it so easy.
I'm so happy with these

We bought these for our new car knowing that we needed to go over the Cascade Mountains this winter. I'm so happy with these! First off the bag they come in is really compact, doesn't take up much space, and is really light weight. On our way home from Oregon the pass required everyone to chain up or you couldn't go over it so I'm glad we had these! My husband did one side and I did the other. I don't have super strong hands, so I was pretty surprised that I was able to get these on fairly easily. I really was a simple as sliding the cables around the tires, connecting the ends together, and then putting the elastic part on in the middle to keep tension on the cables. I found that doing it in a star pattern was the easiest. The entire process only took us maybe 5-10 minutes. When we got going again, I was pleasantly surprised with how quiet these were and there was minimal vibration through out the car. Once we got to a place where we didn't need them anymore, removal was a snap. It took even less time to get them off (maybe 3 min.) and fitting everything back into the bag was hassle free no trouble at all. This is the only way to go!
Perfect chains - try on and let them break in first.

I purchased two sets of these before a ski trip to Pagosa Springs, CO. Honestly, I was hoping I wouldn't need them - but with 15" of snow in one day while on the slopes, they were definitely needed to make our way down the pass.
While it was recommended to try them on. Edits the trip, I was hoping I wouldn't need them and could return them once we got back. So I didn't install them as a test before our trip to CO.
It took four people about 45 minutes to get the first one installed. Part of that was that my Suburban was in really deep snow, so we had to dig out around the tires quite a bit. The second one took about 10 minutes, but still a number of people to get it to connect. The inside connection and first outside connection went quickly. It was hard to get the last outside connection to join without really putting some effort into it.
They worked amazingly well in the snow and ice we encountered, but were quite loud and caused a lot of vibration on the normal roads. They quietness down quite a bit right at 30mph, which was the top speed we could do based on the recommendation of the chains.
We left them on for three days, as many of the roads we travelled were seldom plowed.
When I removed them, it looked like they may have stretched a little, which would make re-installation considerably easier. It would be nice for the manufacturer to state that, so I could have installed and driven with them some
before the trip, so they would be easier to put on in poor conditions.
They seem to be quite durable. I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend.

not much traction

First, this review is from someone who uses chains/cables just a few times a year going skiing or travelling in high mountains. Second, my driving is often not so much in heavy snow, but rather icy snow and packed snow/icy road conditions. Third, the drive is often on steep hills. I realize that no chains/cables are perfect, but I expected a bit more from this product with all the advertisement and reviews. I assume they could be good on main and level roads, but my experience is not so good. On steeper hills the cables don't provide much traction. They are better than nothing, but they are too smooth to grab the ice and snow.
Also, it is true that you don't have to move your vehicle to put them on, but in most cases you will have to move the car when you take them off. It is very unlikely that after use, you will stop the car exactly in the same wheel position as when you were putting them on. Thus, it is very likely that you will have to move the car (slightly) one time or even two times. No big deal, but the point of moving or not moving the car should not be a major factor in buying chains or cables. The traction should be the key after all.
