needs stronger magnets
Ricky KingJune 25, 2017
Big problems with this magnets aren't strong enough to keep it in place with road vibration and you loose a lot of the heat due to the gap between the unit and pan. It is ok if you use and remove before driving but who wants to crawl under the truck twice a day if not more
Here's a couple tips

Works as advertised. Using it on 3rd Generation 4Runner (96-02) in Colorado when it gets below about 15F.

TIP1: Buy a 99 cent electric plug end (has a female end and a male end) and keep it attached to your Magnum's plug when you're driving.
This will keep dirt, water, snow etc off your Magnum's plug.

TIP2: Don't use a zip-tie to attach the cord to your vehicle. Zip-ties deteriorate in sunlight and fail. Use a large twist tie
with a metal wire core or, even better, use a heavier gauge wire to attach the cord.

One Problem: This does not easily fit on the 4Runners. It was just a little too wide to fit in the hole in the skid plate where
the oil drain plug is. So, you have to remove one of the skid plates to get the Magnum into position on the oil pan.
I went to the barn and smelled it burning through the plastic - I'm glad I found it before something bad happened

I purchased this unit in 2011 and kept it on my diesel utility tractor which is under a lean-to at my barn (in western PA). I noticed in 2015 that on unusually warm days during the winter (> ~40 F) the heater started to get too hot and it actually started to melt the plastic housing on the unit. After noticing that I tried to remember to pull the unit off on those warm days. Well, we just had a few warm days around the holidays and I forgot to pull the unit. I went to the barn and smelled it burning through the plastic - I'm glad I found it before something bad happened. The unit performed well, but I'm replacing it with one that is thermostatically controlled so that I don't need to remember to run out and unplug it all the time.

Great heater, I was worried about the temps and put a thermocouple between heater and oil (3 QT) pan for 1200cc engine. They are regulated at 250 F max, which is good for conventional or synthetic oils. It got my dipstick to 130 F within a few hours, and the car starts smoothly. Combined with a block heater, this keeps MPG up and reduces engine wear a lot, worth the investment!

If you're doing 6 cylinder+, might want to get more wattage...3-4 cylinders ok @ 3hours, no less...

Works so much as to prevent piston slap on startup, but doesn't get warm enough to register on the dial
