Medieval Halloween tips and tricks
K. Fontaine✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 15, 2023
We purchased this for a Medieval Themed Halloween Party and it worked splendidly. We used it with grey plastic tablecloth to extend the effect as we were concerned that the wall would look to busy if we made the fake wall 8 feet tall. Also, that way we could save this more expensive paper for where it would really show (eye height) and use the grey table cloth behind furniture and such. Also the tablecloth served to protect our wall from damage.

Here is what we did to get the most bang for our buck.
-- Run the 4 ft x 100 ft tablecloth along the bottom of the wall from the baseboard to 4 feet off the ground. Attach to the wall with a line of blue painters tape along the top and sides (we let the bottom edge hang free)
-- Cut a ~10 - 12 in strip of table cloth and run it along the wall at the normal ceiling height (dropping down from 8 feet off the ground) also using blue painters tape.
-- Hang this product at eye level so it covers both the upper and lower strips of grey tablecloth (ours was about 8 inches from the ceiling at the top and then 4 feet down from that). Use the painters tape to baste it in place then use standard grey duct tape to tape the 'wall' paper to the table cloth.
-- Use grey duct tape to cover the blue painters tape at the seams. Be careful not to get the duct tape on the paint of the walls.
-- Use a few flat silver thumb tacks at the corners and along edges to further secure the blue tape/duct tape combo along the plastic table cloth edges as the painters tape is not quite strong enough to hold this all up on it's own over time (but it only takes a few-- one at each corner is sometimes all that is is needed. The thumb tacks blend in, but if you want to make it look like a deliberate texture then place them with regular spacing.

This may seem overly complicated, but when it came time to take the decorations down after they had been up for more than 3 weeks, it only took a few minutes per wall. Clean up was fast and easy and this decoration is recyclable paper so it can go in the recycle bin rather than the trash. We could have salvaged some quite large pieces for craft projects or themed wrapping paper if needed.

I was thrilled with how this turned out. As other reviewers have noted, when you first take it out of the box it looks like terrible camouflage, but once it is unrolled and up on a wall the trompe-l'œil effect is is amazing. It is not hyper realistic, but makes for a great effect. Also, it is matte paper and not shiny plastic. The stiffness of the paper made it much easier to cut and place than plastic and it didn't reflect light in a way that stone should not, as plastic is prone to do.

Used for this project:
1. This product 1 roll (we bought 2 and had one left over)
2. One roll of 100 foot long x 4 ft wide grey plastic tablecloth (from a local party supply store). We put the shiny side against the wall.
3. 3-4 rolls of 1.88 wide x 10 yards grey duct tape (original grey-- not one of the designer colors)
4. 3-4 rolls of 1.88 wide or narrower blue painters tape
5. A few grey/silver thumbtacks (the kind that are flush to the wall, as opposed to push-pins that stick out)
Looks cool

I was sad that this company seemed to have a lot of photo-real paper for things like patio stone & wood, but not castle walls. I was looking for something more realistic. I bought it anyway & was pleasantly surprised. It does look a bit cartoony, but once I got a large section of wall covered it came out looking pretty cool. Since my dragon ended up looking more cartoony than originally planned, too, it all worked out. I bought it to go on a library wall to make it look like a medieval enchanted castle, complete with a dragon looking at us through a "window". The paper does have a slight greenish tinge when you see it in person (I wish it were more grey), but it was easy to cut & is thicker than expected. It's been up for a month now with no tears or rips. Overall, very happy with the purchase & would buy other bulletin board paper from them. I've included a photo of Boris the dragon peeking in through a window on the castle wall.

My room was looking too sterile after I removed the faded paper on the wall and the soft goods / flexible seating options. So I felt that I needed to do something different and "cool" for my middle school students. I chose this.

The paper is thicker than the stuff on the cart but it isn't as thick as I thought it would be. It does tear but not super easily and it does wrinkle a bit. Good thing that the forgiving pattern helps hide wall and installation imperfections. The pattern is cute and really added warmth to a large chalky white wall. This wall is a work in progress but what you see is almost one complete 50' roll of paper"”I do have some left over enough to do one maybe two small bulletin boards. I stapled the paper to the wall and because of the pattern, you do not see the staples at all which is pretty awesome. Fingers crossed that it doesn't fade.
