Good, except for the burning ring of fire
Amazon Customer•April 10, 2017
A very good syphon brewer! Met expectations, sturdy, works well, and really good fun to use. The only problem was the burner, I ended up buying a butane burner from a local coffee company because the open flame of the one provided made it very difficult to control heat and burned the bottom of the glass beaker. Overall really, really good!
If you want to feel like a barista
Amazon Customer•March 11, 2017
If you want to feel like a barista, this coffee siphon makes you feel like a pro. It also gives you coffee taste that does not like Starbucks. But the coffee taste similar to dripped coffee. It does take longer time to make. After water is boiled, it takes about 3 minutes for the brewing process to complete with a butane burner. So it's like a weekend treat for coffee lover. It's not particularly messy to clean the grind but it's not as easy as taking out the filter with grind already in there. The glass seems to be quite durable as the bottom glass slipped (small vertical drop) and landed in the sink as we pour the liquid out (We did not know the grip was not tighten). I picked this Japanese made siphon over other brand because I know how durable and well made the glass is from a Japanese made glass tea pot that I have been using for years. I would recommend this product to coffee lovers.
This could be the most beautiful coffee maker ever

This could be the most beautiful coffee maker ever. It takes a while to make a cup but it is elegant and fun to watch. Cleaning isn't a blast but that is to be expected. And it is fragile and I'm clumsy so I have to be super careful when I'm around it. So far, so good.
Burnt Peanuts 8/10 times ;(
Todd A. Klick•June 12, 2016
I really wanted to like this brewer but I just cant get a consistent brew from it. I own a Yama stovetop siphon and it's foolproof. About 8/10 times I get the infamous "burnt peanut" flavor in the brew from the hario. Yuck! This indicates heat issues or agitation issues. Yet with the yama i get perfect results 100% of the time on the same heat source/grinderbeans. I am using this on my gas stove which has one extremely small burner and i am able to control the temperature very well. I even tried using a thermometer and still cant get good results. I also notice that the filter leaks around the edges (bubbles from around OUTSIDE edge) and i must monkey with it with the stir stick to get a good seal. I even purchased the digio ceramic filter and that also leaks so maybe the glass is defective (blown incorrectly?). Sticking with the yama - i cant make a bad cup with it. I wanted the hario so i could make a smaller serving since the yama is only good for 550-650ml outputs. I may try a butane burner but I'm doubtful it will fix the problem. The alchohol burner that came with it gave same results. I preheat water in kettle to 200F before pouring and placing siphon on heat source. Im very good about post brewing filter care and prewashing in boiling water before brewing. Ive only owned this for about 45 days so its not a worn out spring assembly and filter is tight and not damaged (factory installed)...weird i am having issues since all reviews are excellent and hario is normally excellent quality stuff
Kind of small

My dad used one of these when I was a kid. Finally bought one for myself after drinking 20 years of expresso. It works well. The only regret I have is I should have purchased the 5-cup version. This really is meant for one person.
