My husband has been trying out quite a few shavers the last couple of years because they discontinued his favorite shaver. He doesn't like the new 4-5 blade shavers because he says that when he cuts himself, it's 4-5 cuts. It can be hard to find decent two blade shavers these days. But, finally, these are it! He says they give him a great shave, which I do notice, as he is not getting the razor burn from some of the recent blades he's bought. It seems like a lot of two blade razors are cheaply made as perhaps there's a smaller market for them. We couldn't find the handle anywhere, but we had tried dollar shave club before and their basic two blade handle works perfectly. It's easy enough to try out their club just to buy the handle and then discontinue the service right after purchase. I'm so happy to have found a razor my husband likes and I bought 3 boxes right away, in case it goes off the market or can't be found on Amazon in the future.

Ok, I'm not just old school, I'm old. But when these first hit the shelves in the early 70s they specifically demonstrated (in a cartoon) how the first of the 2 blades cuts most of the whisker as it pulls it out of the skin a tiny bit. Then, the second blade cuts it below the skin line before the whisker can snap back. It can't be any better shave than below the skin line. So for all the 3, 4, 5 or however many blades they have now, you still can't improve below the skin line.

(For the record: My dad, RIP, used safety razors and swore they were better than these, and my granddad used a straight razor and swore they were better than safeties)

Many people said that these were a great alternative to the HeadBlade HB3 Triple Blade, so I decided to give them a try. They provided me with a pretty good shave when attached to the HeadBlade, but not as close as shave as the HeadBlade HB3 Triple Blade Refill Razor Cartridges provides me.

On the Personna - Dorco - Gillette Atra comparisions: Personnas are a comfortable shave--you can autopilot with slightly heavy pressure and suffer little irritation. I don't love the Personnas' slightly deeper head shape compared to the other two.

Though they rinse out well, Dorcos give a grabby, somewhat uncomfortable shave -- however, with micromanagement of pressure Dorcos can give a very close shave.

I feel like the Atras are ultimately the best of both worlds and have a slightly tighter, smaller head that's nice. All in all, I am happy with Personnas (for price and good performance) and Atras (purely for great performance), but slightly unhappy with Dorcos (too touchy/uncomfortable for me). In the end it depends on what's important to you among price, comfort, and performance.

Found my old Atra handle along with some blades still in a package and decided to give it a whirl. I progressed to the Mach 3 and then the Fusion over the years and found myself shaving with a DE razor a few months ago. I love my DE Gillette Aristocrat handle but its not something I will ever try to do a quick morning shave with if I am running late on a given day. The ol' Atra after a 15 years or so of using the Mach 3 or Fusion actually leave me with less irritation, closer shaves, and all around happier. The money saved is inconsequential to me but why pay more for a crappier shave? These blades are just as good as what I found packed away all those years ago.
