I've been looking and looking

I'm a rather bigger guy and have been looking and looking for a fishing vest that fits me. I finally found this one in a 4x and it fit me perfectly. I've tried other vendors with the same size, only to find out when I got it, that it was meant for someone in China as it was way too small. The Rothco Uncle Milty Travel Vest is a great fit for me. Thanks!!!
Good vest at a decent price

EDIT: 11-2014
After using this on a trip abroad to SE Asia I can say I'm very satisfied with it and I'd buy one again with no hesitation.

The zippers are a little less rugged than I'd like but they held up well and didn't come apart or snag. The pockets have an elastic band around the top that helps keep stuff from falling out of the pockets even when the pocket flap isn't sealed, and this was a real lifesaver on several occasions (it kept me from losing my wallet and some other high-value items).

The pockets held everything I carried- sunglasses, 2 cameras, wallet, passport, lighter, cigarettes, sweatbands, cellphone, extra batteries, pen and paper notepad, mini-flashlight, breath spray, a mini-tripod, my MP3 player and earbuds, etc etc etc.

The vest is lightweight but still pretty rugged; none of the seams came apart, no tears, everything held up very well. All in all a great vest and travel jacket.

Just received this today, and generally speaking, it's okay.

I'm 5' 8" tall (172 cm), weigh ~190lbs (86 kg) and the vest is just *slightly* smaller than would be ideal. Maybe losing a few pounds would improve the fit. :)

But with that said, the vest is decently made and sensibly designed. Most of the pockets are placed in convenient spots and the velcro tabs are big enough to keep the pockets closed securely. I'd have liked one or two additional pockets on the inside but overall the vest looks like it'll be very useful for an upcoming trip to SE Asia. I carry *lots* of stuff with me (camera, phone, MP3 player, keys, wallet, passport, etc etc) and it looks like everything will fit neatly into the pockets.

The zippers could be heavier but seem like they should be okay as long as they aren't abused.

The vest is kind of lightweight so I'm not sure how well it'll stand up to constant use (it's not heavy-weight gear), but in hotter climates the light weight will be a plus. The fleece "hook patch" above the left breast means this thing is really intended for use as a fishing vest, but I'm sure it'll work fine for regular travel. (The cotton patch is velcroed in place and pulls off easily.)

All in all it seems like a good deal for the money ($35).

Heavy duty vest, small inside upper pocket, big inside pockets, magazine pocket in back, no venting on back, good for winter. Fly patch on vest removes, two outside pockets, can hold with smaller lens, a camera like a Gx7, or EM-5, mid range small sized mirrorless cameras, two at once, inside pocket for lens, it does not replace a camera bag, but for walking and shooting, one camera in a padded thin bag, and a couple of lens choices, plus cell and some snacks, its much better than a heavy bag on the shoulder, walking into brush. I am 210 5'10, and would wear a x-large, but I like the oversize for carrying gear, wearing over a sweatshirt, or sweater, under a coat, prefer it in a city to hang on the back of a chair in a cafe, rather than a bag sticking out in the way. Its a cotton poly mix, not mesh for ventilation. In hot weather an all cotton absorbs more sweat, and mesh in the back, with ventilation is good in summer, but the cotton poly for me is generally better for toughness and much better than nylon and its not so mil spec looking I cannot wear it out on the street when shooting in a city. You could use it as concealed carry with some mods, or for day hiking or a boat. I use it in a boat to hold my camera's and ready gear, so I can keep two small ones in open zip locks in the two big outer pockets pockets, lensed up. With some thought, to me its a good camera bag. I got two, one for marine use, one for city use. I grab a paddle or operate in a narrow creeks, hands free, no hanging money loss from accidents. City you have no bag to get stolen or stuck in a door. I use a cane in some situations, so hands free no swinging bag is a better deal. You over load it its heavy, but is a bag cross the neck better. No.
Best E.D.C. / Travelers Vest I found yet.

Im 5' 7" and I weigh about 200 pounds.
Even though I was somewhat confused about sizin as some folks said it sized larger and others said it sized smaller...
I decided to go with since thats what I wear in T-shirts.
I ordered it on 02-28-2017 and got it on 03-09-2017.
Soon as I got it I put it on and it fit excellently well.
The stitchin seems well done.
The is removable thanks to it bein held on the pocket by velcro rather than actually sewed on it
which is a groovy improvement over the last 2 kinds of vests I owned.
Its now my E.D.C. / Travelers Vest.
I measured the pockets best as I could and will be listin them below.

NOTE...I measured the horizontal / width first and from left to right on the grouped pockets.

LEFT INSIDE TOP POCKET 4" X 5 1/2"

This pocket is big enough to carry my ZTE Sonata 3 cell-a-phone IF I chose to do so.

LEFT INSIDE BOTTOM POCKET 1' X 7 1/2"

Of note is that this pocket and the one on the right side doesnt seal all the way across which allows you to carry pens
and styluses in a vertical position on these 2 pockets.
The downside bein that they can somehow work their way out of the pocket and possibly become lost.

LEFT OUTSIDE TOP POCKET 4" X 4"

I carry my snuff can in this pocket.

LEFT OUTSIDE MIDDLE POCKET 5 1/2" X 5"

I carry a small notepad with a pen and a stylus in this pocket.

LEFT OUTSIDE BOTTOM MAIN POCKET 1' X 7 1/2"

LEFT OUTSIDE BOTTOM POCKET 2...9" X 6"

I carry my prescription sunglasses and a bandanna in this pocket.

LEFT OUTSIDE BOTTOM POCKET 3...4" X 4"

I carry a pocket magnifier and a small case of bandaids in this pocket.

LEFT OUTSIDE BOTTOM POCKET 4...4" X 4"

REAR POCKET 1' 1 1/2" X 10"

The zipper opening is on the right side.
Personaly Id prefer any future versions of this vest to have the opening at the top.

RIGHT INSIDE POCKET 1' X 7 1/2"

RIGHT OUTSIDE TOP POCKET 4" X 4"

RIGHT OUTSIDE MIDDLE POCKET 1...3" X 5 1/2"

I carry a monocular and a disposable lighter in this pocket.

RIGHT OUTSIDE MIDDLE POCKET 2...2 1/2" X 5 1/2"

This pocket is big enough for my leatherman blast and would also fit a victorinox huntsman
with a bit of room to spare.

RIGHT OUTSIDE BOTTOM MAIN POCKET 1' X 7 1/2"

RIGHT OUTSIDE BOTTOM POCKET 2...9" X 6"

I carry a roll of toilet paper in this pocket.

RIGHT OUTSIDE BOTTOM POCKET 3...4" X 4"

I carry duck tape in this pocket.

NOTE...The duck tape is on a plastic card makin it flat.

RIGHT OUTSIDE BOTTOM POCKET 4...4" X 4"

Ive had similar vests before and theyve served me well but I can easily see myself gettin another of this kind as the price aint bad
and it has the number of pockets I both need and want.
I was able to negate the need to use a fanny pack and my mini A.L.I.C.E. pack for everyday carry.
The fact that it fits well is always a plus.
Again in regards to the ...
Id suggest goin by what you wear in regular T-shirt sizes dependin on whether or not you want a looser fit.
A lot of reviewers speak of wantin to wear this vest on the outside of their jackets or coats which...
To be honest...Baffles me as Ive always worn clothin of this type under them...BUT to each their own.
Havin said that...IF you wanna wear this vest on the outside THEN I recomend you get at least 1 size larger than what your T-shirt size is.
YES Id definatly recomend this vest to anyone lookin for a good quality vest for E.D.C. and/or traveling.

UPDATE 03-13-2017

I meant to include this in my original writin of this review...

The 3 rings on the vest ARE stainless steel.
I tested them with a small magnet to verify this and they was attracted to the magnet.

UPDATE 05-09-2019

Today the zipper on the lower right hand external pocket broke and I was unable to fix it.
Even so...The vest has served me well for a little over 2 years so even though the price has gone up...
From $38.00 on 02-28-2017 to $44.00 rounded up as of 05-20-2019...
Im gonna buy another one.

Special message to the folks at rothco...

PLEASE put better zippers...YKK preferably...On your vests.

Thanks.
